Jerry - I saw the Runco 3chip DLP at a special showing last CEDIA; It was awesome and if I remember right, they said that one could actually take 120fps input - thogh perhaps I don't remember correctly; I would be shocked if the Cinewide doesn't do 48 ; JVC and Sony both do now as standard on much less expensive projectors...

I haven't seen Full Metal Jacket in a long time and don't even have the DVD; I'll take it and make some use of it if it's extra. Thanks you so much - It'll make good viewing for a 'guys-only' night I have planned! Now I owe you 2 drinks!!! (By the way - watch for an envelope in the mail at your work)

Looks like LG is introducing a dual format player at CES!

" PS- so does anyone want a copy of full metal jacket? "

Jerry,
I may be able to sort out a swop for FMJ in a couple of weeks.Got the same order shipped twice but the second hasnt arrived yet ? smile
Even though its a dodgy disc It'd be nice to see the film again.

A *great* film. R Lee Ermey as Gny. Sgt. Hartman is one of my all time favourite movie rolls.

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Are you shook up? Are you nervous?
Private Cowboy: Sir, I am, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Do I make you nervous?
Private Cowboy: Sir?
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: "Sir" what? Were you about to call me an [censored]?

Cracks me up every time laugh

Even though the transfer was botched it's still the best looking version of the film available.

Ken-
May make more sense for you to take first dibs. Im a long way away and my first shipment took just under 7 (!) weeks to arrive and only 4 have passed for the 2nd shipping so it will probably be a while yet

~M~

P.S. I have a birthday coming up soon so I can always mention FMJ in despatches and see if I score wink

Happy Birthday Manus!!! You sure you don't want a birthday present from this side of the pond? If not I will send it to Ken. Please let me know.

Btw- heres an article on the total HD disc from Warner. I tend to agree with the articles many criticisms:

http://www.avrev.com/news/0107/04.total_hd_disc.shtml

I would add that all displays should now support 1080p 24fs.

Since I am embracing the future, I might as well join the cause. I also think the studios should start releasing 2.35:1 enhanced discs. I have a feeling that in 5-10 years we will begin to see plasmas and other displays made in this aspect ratio. Wider=cooler= new sales angle.

best regards,
Jerry

Agreed. What makes him so good is that he was a real Marine Sergeant.

From R Lee's Wikipedia site here .

"He was only intended to be the technical advisor, but Kubrick changed his mind after hearing Ermey's hair-raising DI tirades, allowing him to write his own dialogue and improvise on set, a noted rarity in a Kubrick film."
