bebop:

As long as you have a mic preamp that can supply phantom power it will work fine.

It's the Behringer ECM8000, packaged for Velodyne.

I have the ECM8000 with a preamp and it works horribly with MRC. Other folks had issues with it also. Not sure if it's a defective batch, bad design or incompatible.

Hmmm, I'm using the ECM8000 too, with the MIC200 preamp. Works fine for me; in fact I seemed to be one of the few getting decent MRCs out of the latest G68 firmware. Takes a lot of messing about, though. It would be nice if we had just a test/snr loop to get the gain correct before going into the MRC calibration.

I'm amazed at what you get for the money with that mic, sometimes it scares me how much audiophile stuff costs compared to pro audio.

Regards,
Mark.

Maybe it should be "audiophool"?

George:

I haven't run into an problems with either a CL Audigy ZX external or an M Audio AudioBuddy mic preamp.

Is this the favored microphone for MRC? I'm still using the radio shack spl for this...

I'm using an Earthworks M30BX and Earthworks mic pre-amp. Was using this combo with my TacT equipment and it works well with MRC.

Hi Mark,

Thank you. Their website says the BX has a built in pre amp are you using this or another pre amp?

Also, did you order the special FLT option? Looks good to me!

(female listening tester) I wonder how that would score on the WAF....

No kidding, I figure I wasted an hour or more doing an MRC for a freind because the silly levels could not be checked quickly.

Note to Meridian: get a copy of ETF and see how to do a pre-mesurement SPL and S/N check.

Also, not impressed with the editing features around MRC. If you can't afford the cost of the dev for some of this, then Open Source it and get some free help. Many M owners are motivated AND top notch develoeprs (or run dev shops and therefore can 'enlist' help).

I'm using an ECM8000 with a Behringer MIC100 tube preamp. Setting both dials to 3 clicks from maximum with the left two buttons depressed and the right two not depressed has consistently worked fine with MRC at 1.0V mic sensitivity. The LED are mostly green during the test sequence with occasional yellow (+6) flashes. These were recommendations Jay (VintageGenX) gave me.

Cheers, Ian

P.S. I believe that I heard somewhere that although the microphone that comes with the SMS-1 or Velodyne DD series subs looks the same as the Behringer ECM8000 sold separately, they don't have the same performance characteristics.

Cheers, Ian

Jerry,

I use an Earthworks ZDT 1021 (or is it 1022) pre-amp with the microphone. The mic itself has a 14dB gain option but I found that insufficient when I was using the mic with my TacT system so bought the pre-amp.

Cheers,

Mark
