Stephan - are you implying that the projector (not the processor) will accept 1080p48 but will display it internally at 60Hz? No, the projector will work fine with 1080p48, it's the processor that is useless because it will output 50/60Hz. But this shows that Meridian/Faroudja lacks behinds the competition. Meridian is a high-end company and should offer the best possible. 48Hz playback (in any form, be it 1080p48, 1080p24 or 1080p24sf) is essential. There really is no excuse for a 50/60Hz only processor. Reminds me of what Tag McLaren did years ago when I saw their prototype processor compared to a Snell and Wilcox Interpolator Gold on a Barco Cine 9. I asked Udo Zucker (ex Tag CEO) if the processor would do 48Hz and he told me that 24/48fps is so cinema and since Tag wants to do better than cinema, they'll do 50/60Hz. And because 50/60 is more than 48 it's better, since more is always better... Sort of puts in perspective how good value a second user CRT really is. Value possibly... but I honestly would never go back to CRT again. Been using it for years and besides the on/off CR, a good digital such as the Qualia 004 or now the Ruby (and units from JVC, DPI, Meridian, ...) will do everything better than CRT. I'll still give the CR to a CRT, but that's really it. I still have a 9" CRT sitting unused in my basement. I've only used it for some comparisons of digital vs. CRT and never touched it again ever since. Will have to put it on eBay at some point... and this is coming from an ex-hardcore CRT freak.

That's good to hear Stephan. The PJ looks great.
As I've said elsewhere, it's clear that Meridian needed an entry to the display side of the AV market and with Faroudja they got it. However, it's up to Faroudja to show they can match the class leaders. The sad thing is that most buyers won't care or even ask... They'll ask their installer to do the whole thing, and the installer will do just that.

I have, back when the thread was originally posted. I'm not sure why you're pointing me there... It confirmes everything I've said here and includes alot of Williams marketing and comparing a non-optimized Ruby with bad uniformity against an optimized JVC/Meridian. You should really get a properly optimzed Ruby and put it side by side to a Meridian. Then decide. For me this is an easy choice, while the Meridian may be good, the Ruby can be better (again, when optimized). If I thought the JVC/Meridian would be better, then I would have bought one and replaced the Ruby with it. We'll have to wait and see what's really better. The new DPI I mentioned may be better (certainly brighter and better ansi CR, but less on/off CR), the new JVC which is coming next year may also be better (prototype was shown at Cedia). We'll have to wait and see. In the end there will always be something better next year or the year after. But this is what the hobby is all about, getting the best out of it now and constantly upgrade to something better when possible. Sticking to the current equipment would be alot cheaper, but then again it would be no fun at all. But of course it's always your decision what you like and what you buy. So if it rocks your world, feel free to buy whatever you like best. I've been called crazy before as well for buying Nordost cables.

William said he will not calibrate due too many flaws in the design of Your beloved Ruby. I have seen the Ruby in action and the picture looks too dark for my viewing taste.

William has yet to prove alot he claimed about the Ruby. He always said the Ruby shows red sparkling on the DVI input. I've yet to see those. And as much as I respect Williams work on the JVCs, most of the so called "flaws" on the Ruby can be corrected. But it sure needs more than the 8 hours for the Meridian. Then again, the reward is a better looking projector. Oh and btw, William was claiming exactly the same back in the days when the Qualia 004 competed against the JVC HD2k... But to be honest, I'd probably say the same if I'd get money from JVC/Meridian. What do you mean by too dark? What screen was used, what size and what was the throw distance, what Iris setting, to what level was it calibrated? All of these are major factors when comparing projectors. I'm usually comparing projectors in the same room, feeding the same source after full calibration. Only that way you can properly judge the quality of equipment.
