At the Bristol show earlier this year, Bob Stuart was demoing a G9x and a Faroudja scaler/deinterlacer. I do not know what model it was. When asked why he was using a particular scaling/deinterlacing option instead of the other he explained that (I believe that I have it the correct way around - ie deinterlacing rather than scaling) that the deinterlacer on the two produced identical results - I seem to recall that the G9x was deinterlacing then being fed to a Meridian-Faroudja scaler for scaling. I believe that I have this the correct way round as when pushed further, the dedicated scaler option was better as it had additional DSP to tidy up the image but for deinterlacing, this was immaterial. I also deemed to recall that the deinterlacer solution used in the G9x was also programmable rather than being based on a single bog standard chip - FLI23xx?
Sorry its vague, but it was some time ago but did come from Bob himself. However I have been known to be wrong.
