Ian,
That's exactly what I'm looking for - some way of getting my RGB scart signal from set top box into my G91 and scaled out through HDMI to 1080P. I wasn't aware that you could get a scart to 3 pin cable that would carry an RGB signal however.
Any suggestions where to find one? Otherwise was looking into a RGB scart to component converter and hook up to G91 this way. Seems a lot of hassle though if all that's required is a simple software update and specialist cable.
John, would be very interested to hear the results of your enquiry. Are you intending to post any response on the Q+A thread or this thread?

Did they comment on an analogue 7.1 input? With just a 5.1 input there are some limits for the future. ;-)

I didn't get the note off as my life interfered. However, the note is in fact off as I type this note so with luck Bob might be able to get us an answer.
No promises, but we shall see.

Is it really just a cable thing to convert a seperate synch (ie SCART is synch on composite) to synch on green or whatever the 3 wire RGB format is? I would have thought it would have required some form of active conversion which would not have been much more of a benefit than a RGB to Component converter - ie the highly respected JS Technology one. At 145 its a costly option and yet another box / mains connection. Thanks John for forwarding the info - not sure how busy the guys at Meridian UK are nowadays, but it is possible that someone of influence has already seen it

I have used, since a year now, a QED converter from Scart RGB to Component video, then I connected this converter's Component to the G68 and to the TV. The difference is stunning. You can notice much more resolution. The costo I think was 50 or 70.
Cheers

Meridian Response: The HDMI output is located after the video deinterlacer, and the lowest possible output at the moment is 480p. We think this gives the optimum result. I've just re-read this and noticed the phrase in bold (my highlighting). Now given that Meridian's deinterlacing solution is custom programmed, that would suggest to me that a new mode which simply pixel-doubles would be possible, allowing 480i and 576i. [mischiefon]Could it be that the deinterlacing in the DVD players is better than the DVP1080MF?[mischiefoff]

I think that the highlighted phrase might mean that they are working on a software solution to work around a hardware limitation. That's just theory on my part...
As far as the mischief mode comment: No. The 1080MF is great, and it's better than the players. The 1080MF uses FPGAs and the players use ASICs, so the 1080MF can get updated at any time with completely new algorithms.
Keep in mind that G9x are using 2-3 year old Faroudja technology if memory serves me correctly on when the part was introduced.

Interesting. I'm just very surprised that (unless I've misread the 1080MF specs) that Meridian doesn't have a 60i --> 24/48p solution, yet...

I don't know if they do or not. It's certainly an interesting question.

At the Bristol show earlier this year, Bob Stuart was demoing a G9x and a Faroudja scaler/deinterlacer. I do not know what model it was. When asked why he was using a particular scaling/deinterlacing option instead of the other he explained that (I believe that I have it the correct way around - ie deinterlacing rather than scaling) that the deinterlacer on the two produced identical results - I seem to recall that the G9x was deinterlacing then being fed to a Meridian-Faroudja scaler for scaling. I believe that I have this the correct way round as when pushed further, the dedicated scaler option was better as it had additional DSP to tidy up the image but for deinterlacing, this was immaterial. I also deemed to recall that the deinterlacer solution used in the G9x was also programmable rather than being based on a single bog standard chip - FLI23xx? Sorry its vague, but it was some time ago but did come from Bob himself. However I have been known to be wrong.
