Meridian has Tag McLaren to thank for their newer lovely headquarters however, so there is that :-)

Cheers,

Yes, I have visited that facility when it was occupied by TMA...actually spent the better part of 2/3rds of a day there with John Mulcahy, Steve Harris and Colin Harrison...excellent day, they showed me around (i.e. design facility, manufacturing facility, testing facilities, etc.), took me for lunch (on their tab), responded to all my questions, showed me products that were in development, etc.

I am sure that things have changed a tad with the new owners...also, a little mad at myself for not visiting M once there...that said, is M open to having visitors in the same way that TMA was (i.e. tell them when you will be in town and a meeting will be set) because, if so, I will go and visit the next time I am in the UK.

Joel:

I don't know if M hosts individual visitors. They did say that they would be happy to welcome an "open house" type setup for the HH's community, assuming it was of reasonable size, in the Q&A.

Best,

When I collected my 557 amps from being converted from 240V to 110V, ready for my move to the USA, I asked if it would be possible for an impromptu tour. This was the old building (opposite Mission) and they wouldnt take me upstairs to the design offices, but I got taken round the manufacturing and testing facilities. It was pretty much as you would expect for a small electronics firm.

David.

John,
Thank you yet again for another fantastic effort. And of course thanks to everyone at Meridian for willing to discuss these things with you/us.

I've enjoyed reading the posts here.

I wish I had something more to add.

best regards,
Jerry

John:

I guess that there is only 1 way to find out...I will call when next heading over to the UK and see what response I get.

Simple!

Ref:- a tour....this is something that might be hard to organise without working closely with the mothership. I'd suggest it may best for the mothership to do...perhaps one of those Saintly fellows that often read this board my be able to do it wink

Failing that I don't mind doing the admin.

From the Q&A...:

"Is it possible to create mono subs with a digital and analogue subwoofer? If not currently available, can a software upgrade be made to do
so?

Meridian Response:
Bob would like clarification on this question please. He will be happy to answer it if possible, but we couldn't come to a consensus on the actual question."

Clarification:

If you have matching subs you can have them Left and Right Sub. With non-matching subs (like one analogue and one digital) you will get one front centre sub and one rear center sub. Kind of a front-rear stereo laugh

There are different situations, but if you for instance set all speakers to small the front centre sub will play bass from front + centre speaker & also LFE. The rear sub will play bass from the rear speakers + LFE.

But, if you have a "difficult room" and are using two subs for more even bass on the different sitting positions, it's better if the two subs play exactly the same sound material. So an option for sending all managed bass to both subs would be valuable. All bass, both front + rear + LFE, to both subs.

3-wire RGB can be switched in 861 and G68.

At our level of audio performance, mixing video and audio processing in a single chassis is something to be avoided wherever possible, and as such probably won't be added to the audio processors.

Component scaling is already possible in G9x where not limited by copy protection restrictions It is theoretically possible to provide a firmware update for G9x that allows 3-wire SD RGB as an input; what is the application?
[/b]
The application is for RGB from SCART based set top boxes, Sky, Freeview etc to be routed at maximum availabily quality through the Meridian kit and output via component/HDMI. These boxes normally provide composite, s-video or RGB SCART (RGB+Synch on composite). External boxes to achieve this are relatively expensive. It would be great to be able to treat 3 x component + 1 x composite inputs as RGB+synch and switch these in G68 and transcode these to component or HDMI.

In addition, there are a number of component 1080i sources now, ie HD camcorders, HD-DVD, Sky HD and the ability to take in 1080i via component and mirror on a single HDMI lead. Presently, component source input, other than interlaced SD requires a seperate component output and switching in the display. A single HDMI output would significantly cut down cabling clutter and user expense.

That's a great question Tommy since I too would like to add a front center sub. The answer that you recieve will also help me to make my decision solid toward another sub.I now have my 18" sub at the rear (due to room constraints) and I am looking to go to 2 15" subs front center and rear I would imagine that these subs being stereo would have an advantage over mono.Sombody help us out.

Ian and Tommy:

I will forward this off to Bob and see if he gives an answer. No promises as I know he is very busy :-)
