Given Bob Stuart's recent Stereophile interview on the purity of a dedicated CD player over that of a similar hybrid CD/DVD player - such as the 808 - I find it very bizarre and disingenuous that Meridian still insist that a G91A could be as good as a G62/G08 combination.
I fully appreciate Meridian's reasoning for not introducing new-format disc spinners until the format 'war' dies-down - but until then Meridian should concentrate on advancing the cause of 2-channel devices. Bob's own admission is that CD's provide a common denominator for music sales (ignoring downloaded music).
Bob's comments do nothing to motivate me to buy a G91A. I'm with Bob in wanting a superior 2-channel CD only system - but I don't have 808i money. The DVD, video and surround capabilities of the G91A would be wasted on me. I would be paying heavily over the odds for features I just wouldn't use.
That's why I want a G62 and G08. Until then I won't be 'upgrading' my present system. That's lost future income for Meridian from unmet customer demand.
