Hi John

Thanks as always for your endeavours on our behalf.

Can we please please please have a last gasp fix for the 568.2mm firmware to fix the audio frame delay bug? (Any frame delay applied in the set up software means that the Smartlink input is no longer recognised, so complete loss of signal!)

I'd second Viruskiller's call for a G62. We need a good digital preamp with high quality A>D stage for use in two channel DSP systems. If it also had MRC I'd write the cheque now!

Cheers

George

Top stuff again John,

3 initial questions from me.

1) Is it possible to house the new M scalers in M clothing. EG. A DVP1080 in a G series box would be awesome - I would and I'm sure others would be prepared to pay a reasonable price premium for this.... & presumably if M are now going down the dedicated scaler route are we going to see some dedicated transport only versions of their DVD players (I don't really expect an answer here but ya never know).

2) A Forum open day at M's factory both in UK and US would be tops. My local dealer in Salisbury was recently invited up and said the experience was top notch - he also mentioned their cinema room had 9* DSP8000s in all working together... hmmm.. he may have been just trying to extract that final bit of drool from my mouth at the time though! I know we toyed with this idea a while ago but not sure how far it went...

3) Finally, are we going to see some fancy point of sale gear coming from M any time soon. For really sad people like me I'd love an M lighted sign to sit above my system. B&W and Arcam do great ones!!!!

Cheers John,

I'm sure I'll have a few more before the deadline...

Simon

Would this be the 3rd mortgage after the 2nd for the 8000's?

I'd possibly get to enjoy the full ensemble for an hour or so before Mrs M got home, after which you'd find the whole lot being sold posthumously...

John:

My questions -- at least those for now -- are as follows:

a) What upgrade future/plans are envisioned for the 800 and 861 with the advent of Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and the related new audio codecs.

b) With respect to de-interlacing and scaling:
-- What chipset will M be moving to (i.e. SiliconOptix, Gennum, etc.)
-- Will they implement full functionality of that chipset
-- Will they implement "relatively full" configurability where, based on my knowledge, Lumagen has the most configurable and flexible scalers I have ever seen/used
-- How will it be sold...standalone product, card for the 800/G series, both, etc.

c) With respect to projectors:
-- What plans do they have to sell units that can handle 24Hz, 48Hz, 60Hz and 72Hz?

d) With respect to speakers:
-- What is the timing re: release of the G46 as well as the speakers that can be used with same.
-- What are the wiring requirements between the G46 and the speakers (i.e. 1 set of speaker wires, two set of speaker wires, comm runs, etc.)?

That should so it for now...many thanks.

Chris : "Add G68 for the dual sub option, not all of us can afford the 861 (I wish!!). "

John : "Guys (Juno and Chris), you are talking about > 8 speaker support once more.

As long as you stay under 8 speakers, you can have multiple subs I know as I've done this with both the 861 and the G68."

Both are linked, I didn' t want to let apart the G guys but relative to the 8 physical analog outputs (?) of the G serie and according to some of us query for >8 speakers outputs, it was a kind of shortcut on my side, no offence intended.

Don't know what form it could take (add one OAX3 card, new card? mconfig update?...) ; but what seems sure to me is that many users with 7.1 setup be very pleased to play with two
discrete subs or more...
Another point would be to know if M will first release this future option first for DSP systems or at the same time for analog out?

Cheers

juno

Will there be a replacement for DSP5000's (as a model that sits between the 3100's and 5200's)?

I also want to see a replacement for the 562 - the G62. For me to go DSP this is the model that I'm prepared to buy (I don't want a G91A). Is this going to happen anytime soon, as there are quite a few of us who want it (pent-up customer demand)?

Now that SlimDevices has produced an 'audiophile' quality network music player (the transporter) will Meridian consider producing something similar?

A couple for the 'suggestion box'...

I would like to see the G68 have one full complement of inputs accessable from the front of the unit 1 x composite, s-video, component, analogue L/R audio, optical and coax digital input and, erm, HDMI. Personally I would not mind if these replaced a set on the back panel rather than being an additional set. Useful for temporarily connecting a device such a camcorder - with the advent of HD camcorder formats, existing SD inputs on TV's/videos etc are not up to the task and the HD inputs are often fully utilised. Its often difficult to reach around the back of the unit to make a connection and leads are often proprietry format so not easy to obtain duplicates for more permanent connections.

The bottom of the G68 has a panel that could possible be replaced with a flap that could cover a set of inputs.

I would also like to see RGB (including RGB + synch on composite ie SCART format) input/switching available and transcoding from RGB to component. Don't mind if transcoding was done in G9x so long as G68 could switch RGBs. If this was done on G68 via a component + composite input then possibly an additional set of component inputs would be nice - 3 for component and RGB would be quite limited.

Plus transcoding of HD/progressive component video to be mirrored on HDMI output of G9x.

Another contentious item:

Are there plans to resolve the G68 multi-room issues and fully document the functionality? e.g. Will not currently work with a G91 as second room controller and any analogue input (inc. tuner) cannot be output at 48/24 in a 96/24 primary system.

(Edited 31/8 to sound less aggressive)

Hi John,
Thanks for taking your time to ask questions for us. Since I won't be able to make CEDIA this year who else would be best but you? My questions are not audio but video. I am looking very closley at the new Meridian/Faroudja digital projector D-ILA1080MF1 and the processor DVP1080MF and I have three questions. 1.Will the DVP1080MF processor be upgradable from 1080P/60fps to a future upgrade of 1080p/24 fps? 2.I also would like to know will the the v.4 HDMI upgrade card 1.1 for the 800 be upgradable to the 1.3 version? 3.Last but not least, would you please take a good look at the D-ILA 1080mf1/DVP1080mf and give us a quick overview of it's performance (they will be demoing the units) I am having my 800 upgraded at this moment to V.4 in anticipation? I would greatly appreciate it. Have a great time!!!! Don't forget pictures.
Thanks,
Greg
