Cheers, Chris I liked the way it sounded as well, but didn't want to say it.

Sorry, but my opinion is that Meridian speakers having the drivers all built into them simply cannot handle high volume in a sustained mode---period!
I've had nothing but nightmares with D6000's / DSP6000's / DSP6000's 96/24 / DSP5000's / DSP5000c's---they simply all burn up their back panels, go into protective mode, blow tweeters, blow woofers, etc. etc. etc.
I've had new panels, old panels, whatever, and they all do the same thing.
Bottom Line: Meridian speakers sound and look great---but only if you can listen to them at 75 or below---anything above and they are useless!

Hi,
I have had several parties running my DSP5.5Ks + DSP5000C and analog rears at partymode and at 80 and I have never experienced any problems.
Regards,

just another point of reference - I run 5200's acroos the front with an SW5500 sub and 5000's rears; recently had soem extensive listening sessions with associates after striaght up calibrations ; we were running some material up into the 90 (Meridian) range and everything above 84;
we were definitely over the top, but did not have even a hint of speaker stress or problem - also, were running full range music samples;
In some cases the music samples had lots of bass, but not low enough to crossover to the sub and the 5200s took it without an issue - running at 91 volume level;
room size is about 15' wide, 20' long, 9' ceiling and a little bit live....

adidadi,
Been doing some thinking re: your blown driver situation and just skimmed back through the thread.
Given that you have a heavily dampened room, employ MRC (don't know how many filter and where), and your overload protection isn't working, have you considered that the "thermal compression" that's taking place in your D5200 drivers is due to possibly faulty amps and electronics. It seems remote that both in a pair and even your center channel, but possible that there is a bad batch of speakers out in the field.
The overload protection, I believe, works based on an impediance differential measured from the drivers, which change over frequency. The fact that you're running your system hard is contributing to that fact. Perhaps Jason needs to see the back panels of the speakers and test them.
Just a thought...
Jay
