WorldAttorney,

Why do you suggest dumping my recently acquired gear instead of my current direction of finding out what is wrong and fixing it?

It, on the surface seems a waste of $7,000 (the cost to me for the 2 D6000's and your DSP6000c)? I assume you mean only the speakers and not the G91a and power conditioner?

DSP5200's at 99! That doesn't sound right. Granted I don't have DSP speakers but 99 is way high and I've heard George Mills DSP speakers. They are pretty loud in the mid 80's. 99 would be blistering loud and probably clipping. What do you think George?

No offence meant, but this is why some folks think you should throw in the towel. This is the easiest step man, google the net, you'll get a zillion hits. Nobody minds a newbie or newbie questions. But people like to see (i.e. will respect you more) if you made a good effort first. Now if you came back with a link to one and said "is this it" and the latest version, now your talking. P.S. I forgot there is also the Avia DVD (same thing) (I forget which folks recommend today). Do some digging on respective forums (e.g. http://www.avsforum.com ). Coming up to speed is hard work.

DJones1915 : You are still saying that you have D6000's and a DSP6000c. I can find no information that indicates that the D6000 ever had a 24/96 upgrade available. This upgrade was/is available for the DSP6000 but not the D6000 that you say that you have. Possibly I am wrong.

Ian, I have it in the back of my mind that Chris 'Caldham' had D6 to DSP6-96/24 converted recently. If I have gone totally mad, I'm sure Chris will confirm.

Nick,

You are right - you can now take D6k to DSP6k 96/24 in one (expensive) go.

It's a complete back panel swap - which rather rules out the speaker electronics as the source of Daves problems as he's had the same difficulties with 2 completely different sets of electronics.

regards

Chris

So no enlightenment has come out of this?
I read all of this only for it to end abruptly and no idea what the issue(s) was/were.

Why not? If it wasn't resolved at the time, why not resurrect it?

I wasn't a HH when this thread first did the rounds but I have seen other mentions of 6000s' reluctance to run at high SPLs. It may all be down to placement / running them in a sauna etc but I've never heard about any other DSPs being similarly affected (afflicted?).

I've had a couple of pairs and whilst I never ran them that high for any period of time, I gave them a good blast periodically and never had any sense that they couldn't handle the volume. I had them on Superspikes, which tamed the bass somewhat and they were in a fair sized room. Always greatly impressed by the 6ks. They represent fantastic value at current prices IMHO.

87 on digital sources is full range when the record is also in the (full) recording spec.
All above 87 is saturated and give distortion.
I had 5k, 5.5k and 8k and never screw the volume over 80-and that was just for "try it". In my understanding playing digital sources for longer time above 65 and short time above 75 is only when the listener is thumb or the record is bad ;-)
That is my mind on that.

Robert
