Looks like that. Well, at least it looks like the stuff really existed if someone doubted that.

George, I agree fully. I had some questions once and I got very patronizing answers from some members rated with very many stars. A forum where it's not possible to discuss shortcomings in products or services without being "attacked" is not so nice. I consider Meridian to be one of the best manufacturers when it comes to certain electronics. But I will never own a full Meridian set up since for example the loudspeakers are not my cup of tea. So respect each other and the different opinions that exists and the discussions will still be discussions and not something else.

Bernie,
It is obvious you have come to numerous and eroneous conclusions regarding this thread.
Harryup seems to have read correctly as well as most of the other "hitchhikers."
I have always been willing to pay for anything I asked for. I did indeed purchase 6000 upgrades from the dealer I refer to. I purchased new tweeters and have offered to pay for anything to help get the D6000s working correctly to both the dealer and Meridian in Atlanta.
Our Capitalistic system is based on us making transactions with each other for a reasonable profit, and I would never suggest otherwise, as I have made my living this way for quite some time.
The issue I have experienced seems to be that the dealer would have rathered I purchased my original D6000s from him for $12,000 rather than my getting them on eBay for $3,800. Now, the bigger picture---if I had not made the eBay purchase, I would never have purchased the upgrades (at full retail price), nor the G91a (demo priced), nor cables, power conditioner, etc. This, in my opinion, prooves my point that any Meridian dealer should welcome the opportunity to service any new customer whether purchasing new equipment or used. I am a paying customer just as any other.
No one has ever even hinted that one should receive "free" service, just "World-Class Service, for a world-class product.
Even if you don't pay retail, you can pay for world-class service, and expect to get what you pay for.
In my case, again, I contacted a dealer to check into why my D6000s "blow up" or go into "protective mode" when played at 77-85 for more than 25 minutes. The dealer came to my home and checked out the situation. His analysis concluded that the tweeters were "probably" blown. He would order 2 new ones. I then brought the speakers to his showroom. He gave me 8 possible scenerios (all with time & materials cost). I chose to purchase the most expensive (if I were the dealer, this would have pleased me)which was the FULL upgrade. I was specifically informed that if I did this, there could be nothing else wrong with them because I was replacing the whole speaker except the cabinet, woofers, and mid-range (the tweeters were included in the upgrade price. There was never a mention of calibration, room size (the dealer had visited my home prior to the upgrade agreement), nor that I could not expect to play the D6000s at 77-85 for any period of time without them going into "protective mode."
So now---the upgrades are completed about 2 weeks later---I go pick them up---no offer to deliver or install or calibrate---I get them home---immediately hook them up---they do the same exact thing they did before the upgrade---I complain to the dealer---he arranges for 3 other Meridian people to visit my home---they all conclude that I can't use the D6000s in my room with my volume expectations---they remove the upgrades---put in the old boards---the old boards do not even work at all now---there is a serious humming with only a little sound---they take one of the speakers back---they are sending it to Atlanta for analysis and repair---I am currently waiting to hear back from Atlanta.
All I did was buy some speakers on eBay, they did not work---I called and visited a Meridian Dealer to find out what the issue was. The above is what happened. I never expected to get anything for free, nor will I ever---you get what you pay for.
Again, pose the following:

Again,
I pose the following question:
If any Meridian Dealer told any perspective customer that he/she could not play $23,000 DSP6000 speakers in their "open" room at volumne higher than 77 for more than 30 minutes, without them becoming so hot, you could not touch the backs, and they would go into "protective mode,"
HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD STILL BUY THESE SPEAKERS? HOW MANY OF US WOULD STILL BUY THEM?

Mr. George Mills,
You do a very nice job administering this site.
Hats off to you!

By the way,
My G91a is not for sale anymore (I have not figured out how to remove the listing either here or on Audiogon). I did put it up thinking I would just use my 518 and 500cd for stereo play if I could get the 6000s working. This was premature on my part.
I will stay with this project. Hopefully, I can do it with the original D6000s from eBay, the DSP6000c, the G91a, and 2 analog rears. If not, the fruit of this thread will guide next steps.

Dave
You mention power conditioner. Do your speakers run through the conditioner? Maybe this is limiting the power being drawn by the speakers causing issues?
Apologies of this has already been mentioned. Its just that we are at 6 pages now and I have forgotten what happened at the start of the story.
Also, sorry to be pedantic but I did have to go back and check, but D6000 speakers are completely different speakers to the DSP6000's that you have. This may confuse people dropping in on the thread.

I have been to Meridian demo's since 1991 and the gents doing the demo's, upto and including the Bristol show this year, use 80/83/85 volumes as I recall. OK, this wasn't for sustained periods, but it was in a fairly open or large room everytime. Even if your room is open, I presume you are not sitting, say, 10m away from the speakers and that you are trying to listen at normal 'in front of system' distances rather than trying to fill an entire space at high spl's? I still think this can only be a technical issue with the DSP's. Did you try using different units as Master etc as mentioned above? This would help identify whether the issue was caused in one unit and passed to another, or is common to all units.
Rgds, Nick

Good catch, Ian. The D6000s have two 75w amps (tweeter and mid-range) and two 100w amps (mid-bass and bass) for a total of 350w - which is not chicken feed amp-wise.
