Re Firmware, Try and find an old fashioned PC with one of those old fashioned real RS232 ports. I tried to load firmeware to a G91 through a USB-serial connection and it failed. Through a real RS232 port (Comm1) it ran no problem.
Best of Luck

I would reiterate what John said - Meridian processors really prefer to be the controller. There are oddies that happen when they are not. Not sure if the same applies to a pseudo processor like the G91. Best way to check, make all units as auto controller, then in standby press clear on the remote. The controller will respond with Conn the other will respond with N.Con. Then manually set the devices to these values.
NB. If you use a USB to Serial converter, make sure it does not use the prolific chipset.
Meridian owner since 1992 Prime & PSU, Focal Elear headphones, Roon (ROCK 8Gi5 NUC), Explorer 1 & 2, F80. 200/203, various Sonos (via Roon).

I know they prefer to be controller but due to room layout the master speaker was more convienient a receptor for IR,
As for the laptop - old style one - i have one but have lost the psu. Oddly enough it has always been great with Meridian configs but without the PSU it is useless. I decided to use a shiny new Dell.
The Dell has worked fine before so i think it was just an unlucky hardware failure. These things happen from time to time - not the end of the world.
