Is anyone sucessfully using the HDMAX 421 with a Toshiba HDDVD player. I recently bought the former and am borrowing the latter. I can get my 800 to work fine with the 421, but I am getting an 'HDMI Error 0' message on the HDDVD player and no picture. I assume that there is some kind of compatibility issue - anyone else with any experiences?

Have you tried connecting it to your display directly? Some folk on AVSForum have had problems with the HD-A1 and their display - one of the reasons I have cancelled my order, as I own a Sanyo Z2 projector which no one has reported as working via DVI/HDMI with this player (but a number of people get the HDMI Error).

David.

Should have mentionned that the Toshiba HDDVD player works fine when connected directly to my projector.

The problem you're experiencing is that the DVD player has lost the handshake with the PJ through the switcher. I experienced this with a client's Tosh HD DVD through his Gefen 2x1. We ran a second HDMI cable to the PJ and no more HDMI Error 0 problems.

I personally think this problem will be fixed in the future, but will occur with all switchers for now (Meridian or other).

A sledge hammer approach may be something like Gefen\'s DVI detective . I have not personally tried it myself but I was recommended this when I was having HDCP errors with my G98 and display. It basically allows you to unplug a display and the 'detective' will mimic the display still being present. Putting it between the HD-DVD and the HDMax would hopefully sort your problem.

we used the toshiba HD-A1 with gefen to eleven screens a the same time without any problem, so no this is not a problem for any switcher. if the player looses sync, press "enter" and then "play"

It actually turns out that the solution to my problem is actually quite simple. I discovered, party by trial-and-error and partly from advice on AVSForum, that the 'HDMI Error 0' can be solved by turing the Toshiba HDDVD player on last. So, projector on first, 861 set to HDDVD input second, and HDDVD player on third .... and it works!

Kind of a pain; but acceptable.

Jfinneru,

When you state that you're using "the Gefen to send a signal to 11 screens at the same time," that to me says that you're not switching, but sending the same signal to all of the displays all the time.

Simon,

The problem is when the unit switches away from the DVD player to watch CATV or satellite. The answer is to power cycle, but the boot up time is approx 3 min and that is unacceptable to owners.
