Would anyone be using this combination? If so, what is the level of hiss. By hiss I mean the low level noise that you normally hear from speaker when equipment is on but source is paused. Usually this only audible from a few inches away from the speaker but I'm hearing it from over 9 feet away.
Thx, Rod.

Reading the post through, those with a "problem" stress that it's discernable within a few inches of the speaker but not farther away. One of the principal complainants finally parked it as "quibbling to the point of irrelevance". Rod, I've no idea what the problem is but if you hear it from 9 feet away, I'd sugest it's not just a characterisitic of the Bel Canto. Steve

Steve I don't understand your point, have you mis-interpreted my post? The reason that I said that thread wasn't very helpful was that it didn't have many suggestions as to what the problem is or how to solve it. You might have noticed these two posts: Mr Sukebe Have to say that my 2i has no hiss. wadia-meister Neither has Cab856's or Henry T's or Gary G's or Mine The GaryG in question is me, I have Bel Canto amps and certainly wasn't suggesting that there is a general problem with Bel Canto amps. Sorry, Gary. You're right that I inferred suggestion of a general problem with Bel Canto amps. Apologies for the misinterpretation.

Thanks Gary.
I should have mentioned that prior to the 861 (2 tried), a 568 and a 568.2MM were used succesfully with *no* other changes - pull 568.2MM out of system , place 861 into system, connect (the still warm) cables, hisssss. The sound is good but I can hear the hiss under the music which means it should sound much better.

After tear down and attempting different things, the eVo is confirmed as the source of hiss. Swapping in a Bryston 9B results in a totally silent system when the source is paused. Bypassed the 861 by plugging a Squeezebox directly into the eVo which resulted in a lower noise floor barely audible from across the room. The noise level of the eVo likely changed earlier but wasn't noticable as it is hidden under the music prior to putting the 861 into the system. Now to see what Bel Canto has to say about it....
