Hi folks,

For years I have had a 596\568 combo, and been using a 507 CD in my analogue system.

I've integarted it all now picking up a 562V with MC input for my turntable.

I had a hell of a time setting it up, (press clear and they choose the controller, yeah righto!!)

Ultimately I have set the 596 up as the controller and all works well aside the following glitch.

When selecting a source on the 562, it cleverly chooses the digital or analogue input on the 568, but only if you choose TV as the primary source or CD. for example pressing LP while on a the 568 is on digital input will not switch it over to analogue, you have to press TV first, then LP.

The other gremlin is its not happy with changing sources, i.e. switching from CD to DVD, CD to Radio all will go quiet and you have to toggle round the presets to shock it back into life.

Anyone else met this issue?? all firmware etc is up to date, 568 is in 562 mode.

Thanks for any assistance

S

Hi Snowflake

You'd be best to have the 568 as controller. If anything else is allowed to control, you will run into problems.

I think the broader issue here is that you need to have each of the 596, 568 and 562 set up to recognise every input source. It sounds as though you don't have the rig set up that way at present, which is why the 568 is only reponding to one input selection (TV in this case). I'm assuming that you have all analogue sources going through the 562 and and all digital sources going directly into the 568? Before I launch off on a comprehensive input mapping list, can you confirm what sources you have, and what they are connected to?

Cheers

George

Hi,

I tried the 568 as a controller (in fact I tried everything as a contoller and only the 596 seems happy about it!!)

So as per the Meridian guide only D1 and A1 are used on the 568, they are connected to the main digital and analogue outs on the 562V.

All sources (which are 596, 507, radio, TV and LP) arte connected to the 562, DVD and CD using digital inputs and the others obviously using analogue.

When using the 568 as a controller everything was extremely random the CD commands worked the DVD, DVD worked both CD and DVD, sometimes worked neither.

To my eyes all the 1c and 3c comms stuff apeears to be correct and matched, unless there are some settings that need to be adjusted on the front panel of the 568 that aren't available on the PC setup. 562 mode being a prime example of this.

It may also be worth mentioning that the back end is analog, the 568 links to individual power amps.

Thanks

S

You need to take a step back and, as Mr Meridian says, configure the 562 and 568 separately.

I'd start with the 562 (turn the 568 off) and configure the sources (including inputs and comms) as you want them to respond to the MSR and disable any sources you don't want. Then do the same for the 568 (with the 562 off). Obviously, you'll have a reduced set of inputs when you configure the 568 (D1 and A1 as you have stated).

Good luck.

VirusKiller,

In this process should I also disconnect the comms lead from the box which is switched off, and I am using manual controller config, so should I configure the 562 as controller while 568 is switched off, 568 as controller while 562 is switched off, then leave 568 as controller when 562 is powered back up.

Another point I may not have made clear is all inputs work, but for example going from CD (Digital in on 562, on D1 input of 568) to LP (LP, on 562, A1 input 0n 568) I have to press TV first this shifts the 568 from the digital to Analogue input, then selct LP. While on a digital source, pressing LP alone does not shift the input for D1 to A1 on the 568.

Hope that makes some sense!

The other gremlin being that switching between sources, using 562, then requires a toggle round the presets on the 568 to get the sound going again (almost like the 568 stops listening when a source is swapped)

Thanks again

S

I used to have 596/562V2/568 with analogue out.

Essentially, the 568 must be the controller with all its sources set up to use D1 or A1 inputs (this is the effect of using 562 mode) with any presets etc. set up per source as required.

The same sources setup should be reproduced on the 562 which is then commanded by the 568 to switch input to match. Any difference between sources on the two units will cause it to get confused. You can get the 562 to digitise all the analogue sources and pass these to the 568 via D1 and then DAC in the 568 however, this is not recommended as the DACs in the 568 are better than the 562.

You must have an incorrect setup on your LP source for it not to recognise this as analogue if the TV source works OK.

Malcolm,

I believe you have just highlighted my error!!

On the 568 I have disabled all sources except D1 and A1, labelling them Dig and Anlg (I assumed the 562V handled the sources and directed them to the appropriate output)

It looks like the correct way forward is for the sources to match on both the 568 and 562, except on the 568 point them at the appropriate D1 or A1 input on the 568

I will test this evening.

Thanks for the assistance, greatly appreciated.

Spot on.

BTW, as long as you turn off the unit from the back, there is no need to disconnect the comms.

Morning folks.......

Just to say many thanks, all sources behaving as they should the remote is somewhat stuttery however (forward will leap three tracks, or one, stop takes a few presses)

Is this just IR innacuracy I have to live with?

It did seem better with the 598 as controller, but I msut admit I haven't tested this since promoting the 568!

Any tips??

Thanks

S

Hi Snowflake,
With the system in standby have you pressed clear on the remote to reset the system after all the changes ?
