i'm surprised that 596 uses DSL-710A. my 588 used DSL-720A......... and i payed about 100 GBP for it

588 is much newer than a 596.

My 596 indicate "DSL-720A" in the >> Setup >> Information >> menu
Lots of products use a DSL-710A now : Linn Majik CD, Naim DVD5, Arcam, etc ...

My newer 596P indicates DSL-720A too.
I've got a question : why It doesn't play DVD+R DL ?
Does anyone can play DVD+/-R DL (also called DVD-9) ?

The G98 as a DSL-720A and I also have a 800 on home loan at the moment and this as the same drive.

So, we should keep our eyes open for possible purchasing opportunities (or some Web merchant with stock suffcient enough to support a group purchase) on the DVS DSL-720A. The eBay seller offering the 710 in large quantities has already told me they can not obtain the 720, and DVS, both in their US office and in communication directly with the factory in Korea have told me they can not supply either the 720 or 820 any more.
The next best thing would be any knowledge of another manufacturer's drive as a plug-and-play replacement.
