Anthony, can you explain how to install your power supply?
I have no technical background, as an accountant, and would like to know whether it would be possible for an untrained person to do the install.
Thank you.

Paolo,
If you can turn a screwdriver to remove some screws and remove 3 wire plugs from the supply. Remove 4 screws holding down the supply,
screw by hand 4 included standoffs, remove old supply, and steel cage, then install my supply, reversing the proceedure. If a Meridian user can tell Paolo If the Meridian has philips for the top cover or allen screws, and can tell him the size of the screws, I would apreciate that.

Done! easy!

Richter,

Congradulations on your successful install.

Question: Did you also remove the factory IEC filter & switch combo?

By the way, if you like the sound quality now, give it a few weeks of continuous play and it gets even better. laugh

I dont know the size but the very top cover is larger size Allen - four - one in each corner.

Then there is a second top plate, which has like 20 small bolts. I used a small flat blade screw driver to remove these.

The rear plate holding the IEC switch & filter combo is secured by 4 small Allen bolts.

No havent changed the IEC filter & combo. That will be the next step - do you have any good links where you bought yours ?

I like the new sound a lot - and it's more than OK if it's getting better by the time.

Had a friend over last night - he also have a G68 " normal model ". Would'nt surprice me if Anthony get's a new ordre very soon !

Just put in the new power supply

Installation:

straightforward w/one caveat -- you have to physically bend/expand the metal cage the old power supply sits in to fit the new one. The new has a capacitor that extends a bit past the board, preventing it for dropping straight in.

So, it's not just plug 'n play, we are now physically modifying the G68 a bit. Don't know why those on the forum haven't mentioned this, feels disingenuous somehow. A deal-breaker, no. Something one should know about before buying -- absolutely. I called Anthony when I realized the new power supply wouldn't fit. Didn't want to start bending metal before talking to him, as nowhere had this been indicated. Left him a message, and in the interim sent a pic of the cage to him. He got back to me promptly and said that bending is indeed the solution. Got it done, but not easily btw. Anthony has never personally installed one.

Sound: first impression, two songs in. More bass w/o question. I'll have to recalibrate my system a bit. Maybe a bit more detail, but too early to say definitively. I'll follow up after I've done some more listening.

Harry, yes that is an option...
some like the one box solution.
Robert sent me a good picture showing the rails that needs to be bent. from the customers who bought the supply and installed, it was a non issue. What ever the case, at least it a non-reversable "mod" to the rails.

Steve will be sending is analog section to me to be un-corked... more to follow with in a week.,

You definately want to remove the factory IEC, switch, & filter combo. In my opinion, the built in filter hurts the sound quality. Removal result is jaw dropping - sound quality improvement is definately on paar with the power supply replacement.

Removal of the factory IEC/switch/filter combo was the first tweak I tried. Even with the factory power supply in place was a huge improvement.

Anthony sells a switch & IEC combo terminated with the correct 2-pin connctor & chassis ground wire. The only thing you need to get Anthony to do is extend the length of the 2-pin connector wire to like 14" (power supply feed wire needs to run from the rear of unit to front, then 1/2 way across front).

Removal is easy: Remove 4 small Allen bolts on rear which holds the IEC plate. Remove the plate and slide the IEC filter out of rear. Remove nut for chassis ground conection (located directly below the IEC/filter). Then just disconnect the 2-pin power connector on the power supply. Keep the rear plate, IEC/filter combo, & attached wiring for resale.

Installation: The only tricky part is to fashion up a new rear plate. When you see the existing plate you will understand why it cant be used. Black plexiglass or aluminum works well. I used aluminum, but plexiglass might be easier to work with. New plate needs to be something like 2.5 x 4" cant remember eactly at work now. Easy enough to measure. Needs four mounting screw holes & IEC cutout (use factory plate to mark 4 mounting holes on new plate). After new plate is ready, mount the new IEC/switch combo to the plate. Attach the ground chassis terminal wire & bolt (again directly below the IEC). Then route the power wire to the front and connect the 2 pin connector to the power supply.

Thats it - really not that hard. You will love the result!

I thought I emailed you detailed instructions on complete step by step installation, including factory power supply metal box removal, over @ Audio Circles.

I simply removed the factory power supply metal box housing. The new supply doesnt fit in it properly. There are 4 small screws that need to be removed from the under side of the G68. Entire box will come right out.

For those that dont know, the metal box has the stand offs to secure the factory power supply. Then its just a matter of installing a couple new standoffs which Anthony can supply.

I also did add a ground wire to Anthony's power supply to connect the chassis & the power supply (same as was done by the factory). Power supply chassis ground connection is located near the 2-pin connector side of the power supply. Anthony can install this ground wire connector for you. 6" wire with ring terminal will do it.

Again I simply removed this metal power supply box. No need to bend it up. That way can keep all original factory parts (metal box, rear plate, IEC/filter combo, & wiring) for resale.

Can one of you folks kindly record your waterfall plots before the mod (if you have not rerun MRC yet, you should still have it) and after and upload them. I'm curious to see.
