Still no comment from George.

Knowing his love of LOTR I can't believe he hasn't got the DSP6000s out of the boxes to create his own Ring of Power.

He's probably huddled up next to the 8000s mumbling "My Precious...My Precious"

Hi Gents

Having been glued to them for the past couple of weeks, I thought an update may be in order!

I have now completed the Tartan paint job on them, nothing too showy, I've gone for the Ross Muted Ancient Hunting...the conventional Dress and Hunting variants are a bit too "shortbread tin".

It really has been like having a gig in the living room every evening; the level of realism and articulation throughout the frequency range is remarkable, particularly in the bass department. I think this latter aspect is more obvious at present due to the inadequate
room in which my system has been housed for the past year. Despite the room's natural boominess, I'm hearing detail and control from the speakers which are simply a joy. They do like to be driven louder than the 6ks...I find that volumes lower than around 65 leave the sound a bit flat (to my ears anyway, but Mrs Meridian disagrees and prefers them at 65 and lower, rating them significantly ahead of the 6ks ). They are a hugely exciting listen, and really have the authority to handle anything and everything with aplomb.

A few other observations: Great Granny Meridian visited last weekend, and to my astonishment started dancing to Gorillaz, Demon Days. Now, being deaf as a doorpost, she has either become a late convert to Rock, has felt the beat rather than heard it, or Bob has thoughtfully built an induction loop into the 8ks. Either way, most surprising. Another observation is that several recordings have sounds which are reproduced with such clarity and impact that they sound as though someone is actually in your house...disturbing indeed when the rest of the family is actually out!

At any rate, having lived with them for three weeks now, I can't imagine a system offering more than this. I've heard several combinations of high end kit at a local dealer with prices that were pretty near to the full retail cost of the 8ks, and they just didn't come close. I'm a very happy camper, and that's without the full 6k Ring of Power...

So what of the future? In due course, I've decided to add a pair of DSP3100s. I'll run with the 8ks on Front Left and Rear Left, and the 3100s on Front Right and Rear Right. That will allow a proper 4.0 "haggis" configuration, as is only right and proper for a system based so close to the Highlands... wink

Cheers

George

Yes, seems sensible to use one of the 8k's as a surround.

Why? Are the mountainside left legs of a haggis shorter than the valleyside right ones? Do male and female haggis have the same orientation of short and long legs? If not, might this account for their rarity?

- George -
Only just got back after having been away for a month, so only just seen your post. Gratz on your new speakers.
