Any idea/experience with the M1500 sub used in a stereo system (and whithout a Meridian proc)?

If I am not mistaken, it was the D series that required the digital setup. The M1500 and M2500 were analog subs. I owned the M2500 and it was a very capable sub, not stellar, but capable. My feeling was that the servo 12 Velodyne was a better choice, among others. Hope this helps.

The M1500 is the analogue counterpart of the D1500. From what I have read, you can do better for your money, but it's your ears that matter.

Look at page 3 of the Meridian Subwoofer User Guide, that states: "The recommended configuration for music is to provide two subwoofers, one for each of the main left and right channels, for a superb stereo image".

You can daisy chain them, can't you?

I have an M1500 and find it is superb, it blends seemlessly with my other Meridian speakers.
Music sounds full and you just dont notice it is there.

Carefull positioning will also play dividends.

If you want loads of overblown bass, then perhaps its not for you, but I like it and have no wish to trouble my next dood nieghbours.

The thing with Meridian Kit is it delivers what is there, not what you wish was there.

In the end, let your ears decide. Its all a matter of taste.

PY - it depends on what you are looking for. The M1500 does not plumb the depths of bass - it's -3dB point is only 30Hz. However, this is able to reproduce the lowest notes of a double bass. I'd imagine that the 1500 and 2500 are also better with music than movies (but that's just a hunch).

�300 sounds like a pretty good price, so if you are planning to fill in below some bass-light stand-mounts then you could be OK. If you've already got floorstanders with good bass ability, then probably not.

One thing which may scupper the idea completely is that the M1500 has only line-level phono inputs, so you need a processor of some type with bass management. Other subs with high-level inputs (e.g. REL) don't need a processor at all - you can attach them in parallel to the output terminals of your power amp.

Chris. With most M processors, if you don't have side speakers, you can have three subs (L/R/.1).

Given the rest of your system, I think you may be a little underwhelmed by the M1500. I should say that I haven't heard that model, I'm just going by comments made about subs (the issue comes up every now and again on this forum) and the various models. I use one of the bigger RELs, they go very deep (-3dB @ 11Hz in this case) and they are regarded as being fast enough to keep up properly with music. There is good input flexibility and there are several crossover tuning options with the RELs, but several other companies have models which have been well reviewed by people on this forum previously (eg Velodyne DD models).

Chris, I've forgotten about the newer Mconfig.exe since I sold my G kit a while ago, but with the legacy set up programme and 500 series, you can run up to three subs (if you stick with 5 main channels).

confirmed with the G series anyway- i did a lot of experimenting with this; double (even triple if you want) works great with stereo set-up; but when you want to go 7 channels, you'll have to go back to one sub currently; At least until M- adds to the 8 channel maximum...

From my experiments and ears, if you are just doing 5 channels or stereo for music, the double subs sounded great as Front left and right; although I had to tone them down a bit... In the end I chose to stick with a 7 channel configuration as I thought this was even a bigger difference (for movies);
