Ask anyone with a Marshall guitar amp, or other high current valve amplifier, and they will tell you there are certain times of the day when the quality of the sound is distinctly off colour. Early evening is a case in point. I don't think it has anything to do with tired ears (iPod users exempted) as that wouldn't explain why the sound improves again later in the evening.

Isotek sell a power conditioner to counteract this, however they are expensive.
