As I said I did an upload without any problems either on day one! I was doing this with my Sony Laptop and USB2Serial cable.
I know that dCS are providing a CD-ROM to boot their DACs and Drives in order to update firmware, may be that would be a the best way.
Upload in the M web site a ISO image of a CD, burn it at your place, stick it into the player and you are done!
Just my 2c.

Has anyone experienced being able to update the
'core,' but not the 'data' for the G98D (as it times out at the 'data'?

The display shows v2.11, but the feature set is still v1.81.

Having read the previous six pages went to upgrade my G98DH this morning full of trepidation, wondering if I would have a week or two without DVDs.

No issues whatsoever!!! Upgrade completely without incident. Used a USB/serial connector as well.

Can we hear from all those without issues so that we can get a balanced view on how good the upgrade was??

If anyone is having troubles downloading these upgrades from the internet, then contact M. I`m sure they will gladly mail an installation CD to you.

I know there as been issues downloading from some ISP`s.

I have the same problems as e.g. Recruit.
My G98 is dead now (for one week).
I think it will have to go back to M, not funny as I'm living in Germany and my dealer is in UK.

Can i remind everyone, that at no point does the bios get written to during a fupload - so a corrupt bios is very difficult to get. fupload talks to the core code when determining what model you have, and if you failed to fupload the core correctly - fupload will complain. BUT the actual firmware upgrade code is held in the bios, so you can still fupload when the core firmware is dead and the player is unresponsive.

Okay, I will try it again and again although that might damage the off/on switch next. confused

I can only think you own the worlds worse USB to RS232 adaptor to be having this much trouble. Does the fupload fail immediatly, or mostly complete before giving up???

I tried three different computers, two different adapters, one rs232 port that was integral to the motherboard, and three different leads. Saint Ed of Meridian kindly and patiently talked me through all the various permutations that were possible, even, amongst other things, suggesting loading the core mfu file on its own. The G98DH, helpfully, would light up cheerfully to announce "Erasing..." followed by "Downloading..." and that would be it. Fupload on all three computers would spit back "!R connect failure" or "10000ms non-response time-out". It proved impossible to revert it to its functioning, pre-upgrade state.
It is entirely possible that there was something wrong with the unit previously - I have already mentioned my HDMI issues on this forum - but when the booming voice from the Oracle above intones "It sounds like your bios is corrupted," my inclination is to say "Yes, your Worship".
