Has anyone actually canvassed M's opinion on the matter?

Perhaps all manufacturers don't want to get involved since it is a moot point and don't want to have to hike the price of their kit on something they don't make themselves in order to supply with. I can't think of a manufacturer who ships new kit with branded power cables.
