i have noticed a number of other people gnashing teeth and bemoaning the wonderfull upcoming pocket lightening process due at the end of january thanks to Her Majesty.
anyone got any fiendish ideas about how to claim tax back on some Meridian equipment?
client presentations perhaps?
showing impeccable taste has to be worth a tax dodge *cough* I mean break.

That'll slip quietly past the tax inspector: "Pair of office computer speakers; quantity - 1; cost - 17,000."
Main System: Trinnov Altitude 32-8-16, 271, 2 x 8KXE, 1 x 8KPP, 6 x M6 Surrounds, Rel No.25, Oppo 203, Zappiti Pro 4K HDR, Roon, WiiM Mini.

You need to be slightly more creative than just a pair of PC speakers. You need to add the 50" plasma and a US$29 web cam to write it off as a teleconferencing center. Worked for my ex-military client who still consults to the DoD.

Its not the tax man you have to worry about, its the VAT man. Make any decision based upon whether you could justify expenditure to him when he is sitting in your home.
Meridian owner since 1992 Prime & PSU, Focal Elear headphones, Roon (ROCK 8Gi5 NUC), Explorer 1 & 2, F80. 200/203, various Sonos (via Roon).

If you describe your purchase as A Meridian digital modular system (more than a grain of truth) the VAT inspector may just be fooled into believing you have invested heavily into telecommunications.
On a more serious note, I would not have thought it difficult to justify the purchase of a plasma/LCD flat screen on the basis that; the requirement was for a screen that would wall mount so as to maintain a clear floor area (Health & Safety); the reason it needed to be 50" was to avoid eye strain (Health & Safety again).
Having got the screen, you need a means of connecting it to your PC. Since it would be dangerous to have unnecessary cables running around the office, a multimedia controller is required (Meridian).
Finally speakers - Unless you work in an aircraft hanger I would not recommend DSP8000s and struggle to find a good reason with regards to Health & Safety, quite the opposite in fact.
Having set up the office, a nice touch is to add a desk. Depending on your business of course, I doubt the Inland Revenue would regard a room packed with multimedia equipment and a sofa as an office.
