Ken:

Remember that possible might not equal economically feasible.

Remember the G91D to G91A upgrade question? That requires gutting the player and replacing the back panel as the upgrade affects every board. The only thing left would be the drive and the front panel. Is that a cost effective solution? Probably not.

So let's talk about G6x adding HDMI. Is this going to be added onto the video or audio board? I guess it has to be audio, because not every G68 version has video options.

How many inputs for HDMI, 1, 2? I guess 2 is a safe number. If you need more than 2, you'll need a compliant switcher What are we taking off the back panel to do this? I guess two analogue stereo inputs is what we'll take, that makes it pretty easy. There goes the center 1/3 of the G68.

Now we need to get an HDMI output, we haven't addressed that just yet, but we have to have one. I suppose we could replace the "Opt in" for the V variants with the HDMI output, that would work well. There goes the right 1/3 panel from the G68.

Now we're talking about replacing 2/3 of the G68s back panel. This just addresses getting connectors into the G68, and I don't know what additional dependencies exist beyond the connectors at the board level. DSP requirements and licensing are other items that are unknowns to me.

I'm also not going to commit for them, but I see it as being an expensive upgrade for G68 if its offered.

Cheers,
