Nope, I don't have your e-mail.

Did you send to jkotches at pobox dot com or kotches at widescreenreview dot com?

I don't think George has Private Messaging turned on.

Best,

I do not agree here. I always get outstanding service from both Dutch Distributor and Meridian UK. I am up to a point i not gonne buy much more of M hardware as i am quite complete.
So from your point of view they would not help me any more as they cannot get more of my money ?

Software updates and fixes both existing and future customers. Even for prior version products such as the 568.2 processor or 59x players, Meridian have made significant software changes. You only have to look at the integration of the core 59x/G9x/80x and 568.25/G6x/861 functionality to realise that future enhancements/bug fixes (such as a disc problem) will likely benefit more than the current range. I don't see many manufacturers putting this much effort into prior version support, enen though at times, it has not been done in a timely manner

Don't agree. Too many basic problem. To many customers with different firmware. Compare to McIntosh and they are way ahead in support and production controll.
I would like to see a home page stating the latest firmware per model and an order form where you could order an Eprom for a resonable fee.

A reasonable Fee?

Would free of charge be reasonable enough?
A New EPROM!
Thats what I got for my 565 upon request to make it suitable to accompany my 596.
Free postage as well.

Thats what I call service. smile

Happy New year, Chris smile

As it stands, the best estimate is that we wait for 1.3 and hope M- can deploy it as an add-on;
From what I understand we are at least 12 months away from HDMI 1.3 chipsets being available. We may see products with 1.3 (from any company) in 18-24 months time. (from now)

will allow us to take advantage of new codecs like Dolby True HD?
All of these new formats really need to be decoded in the player. The reason is audio mixing must take place.

The new players will have built-in sounds. There will be audio associated with the interactivity that is composited on-top of the running video. There will be audio streamed from the Internet. All of these must be decoded back to raw PCM and then mixed. This will all take place inside the player and then it is best to send PCM over HDMI, which you can do today.

We will need HDMI inputs, for audio, into the SSPs to get the best quality.

John, you should ask when we can expect HDMI audio inputs into their SSPs for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players, that will be out shortly.

Stacey,

Yes... I am going to ask about that.

Good to hear from you. Are you going to be free for dinner one evening -- Friday or Sunday?

Amy's going to be with me so it would be nice to catch up with you over dinner as I know the show will be very difficult to catch up during the day smile

Best,

"We will need HDMI inputs, for audio, into the SSPs to get the best quality."

Will that mean that you cant separate Audio/Video out from the player? Or will there be one HDMI for video and one for Audio?
That's not what I think the standard is aimed at.
And if all channels are separeted in the player we will need a 7.1 analogue output at the player and the same at the processor to be able to use new equipment together with old.
I'm not interested at all in bringing video into the processor. Sometimes it's nice to listen to one music source while you are waiting for a game to get started and switch over to the game sound just at face-off.

Happy New Year
Harry

The SSP would also need an HDMI output to pass the video as players may only have one HDMI output.

The prototype player I have only has one HDMI out and 6-channel analog output.

Just thinking out loud here....

Wouldn't a product like an HDMAX 422 solve this? The outputs would be duplicated with one going to the SSP, and the other going to the display.
