For those on the forum who are to attend CES, is it worth compiling a list of questions, or was CEDIA recent enough that this would be largely redundant?

My interest for the future is an analogue 7.1 input for being prepaird for upcoming new codecs not handled by Meridian. Or does anyone know if it is possible to already configure G61 to have a 7.1 input?

As an FYI, I'm trying to schedule the appt through the appropriate channels today or tomorrow.
I will answer some questions ahead of time when I know the answers.

Or does anyone know if it is possible to already configure G61 to have a 7.1 input? None of the Meridian processors can handle a 7.1 input at this time -- the multi-channel analog inputs only have 6 channels of A/D conversion. Without A/D conversion you can't process the additional two channels of analog input. It's going to be a while before you have any 8 channel content coming out of Hollywood anyway as they have to retool for 7.1 and this requires a complete remix from the theatrical release which is limited to 5.1 or 6.1 depending on which path they've taken. How about being able to delete DSP mode choices for a given input? This has been brought up before and seems not a big deal to implement.

no need to revisit the entire issue here; but if this is a list of CES questions for John or other to cover - mine would be to just get the latest on the G- series future support of HDMI;
As it stands, the best estimate is that we wait for 1.3 and hope M- can deploy it as an add-on; if there's no change in that, then so be it; but any updates in the thinking would be appreciated.
I'm also interested to know if any new driver technology is planned - especially for smaller format speakers like 3100, etc.
thanks ken

All,
Looking at my schedule for work and for CES, I'm going to set the deadline as 11:59pm EST 12/30/05 for questions...
Anything after that isn't going to get included.
I leave for CES on the 4th, and it's a holiday weekend right before. I'll need time to assemble and organize etc.
Cheers,

I'd also vote for ability to delete unwanted processing modes ... there are many I don't use, and cycling between them is a pain for my Wife on a Crestron
It'd also be nice to change crossover slopes, even better independently on both the sub and speakers themselves (that way I could do 12db octave on the mains, which added to their existing 12db natural roll off would be 24, and then dial in the subs coming in at 24. I can dream can't I?)

DTS Demonstrates DTS-HD Master Audio for First Time at CES 2006 20/12/2005 - 16:30:02
First Public Demonstration of High Definition Video Content Played with 7.1 Discrete Channels of High Definition Audio
PRESS RELEASE via BUSINESS WIRE - At the 2006 CES (Consumer Electronics Show), DTS, Inc. (NASDAQ:DTSI) will premiere DTS-HD Master Audio, the company's high definition surround sound solution for next-generation high definition media. This marks the first public demonstration of high definition video content shown in conjunction with 7.1 discrete channels of surround sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the master soundtrack. Previously announced as DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio has been selected as an option in the standards for the upcoming Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD media formats. The company will be holding demonstrations of DTS-HD Master Audio throughout CES, January 5-8, 2006, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall Room #N242.
Presented in 1080p super high definition video, this dramatic demonstration will include clips of major Hollywood feature films, concert videos and music videos seen and heard for the first time in both high definition video and audio. The program itself was produced by Martyn Ware, founding member of The Human League and Heaven 17, and one of the most in-demand producers in the UK today.
"The consumer electronics industry is entering a new era, and DTS is pushing the envelope by making the home entertainment experience completely come alive," said Jon Kirchner, President and CEO of DTS. "With DTS-HD Master Audio, for the first time we have sound that matches high definition video images and allows people to truly live the high definition life."
In addition to producing audio so pure and accurate it is identical to the master soundtrack and having 7.1-channel discrete sound capability, DTS-HD Master Audio is also compatible with existing generation equipment and can deliver a significant increase in sound quality when consumers play the next-generation discs and players through their current A/V equipment. DTS-HD Master Audio is an extension of Coherent Acoustics, which is the digital codec upon which all of DTS' audio technologies in the consumer electronics space are based, and was built from design to be highly flexible in anticipation of future requirements and applications.
DTS-HD Master Audio is expected to launch in a variety of the new high definition players and A/V receivers planned for introduction throughout 2006 from major manufacturers.
It looks as though it is in the works. John I don't think I will be able to make CES this year but this looks pretty interesting. Greg

I suppose my question would be: Does M intend to offer any kind of upgrade to the g68 that will allow us to take advantage of new codecs like Dolby True HD? This would not necessarily require an HDMI iput, but would require some kind of proprietary digital input, and the OK from the HDCP-people.
Thx!
Simon

John: Thanks, but I don't give up my wish for a 7.1 analogue input for codecs like DTS-HD Master Audio. There will be use for an external decoder (maybe built-in in the DVD/HTPC) when you have invested a substantional amount of money and don't like to change your processor every now and then.
