Been going through various phases through 20 years of being a nut... Analogue gear is fantastic and it gives you the flexibility to test and try out different equipment. After having gotten my self lost (in the equpment jungle) I found Meridian and got my self a digital Theatre. Then I got tired and wanted to test gear again. There honestly is no straight answer to your question. You have to find your own taste and prefference. That means testing and auditioning again and again until you get satisfied. Just one strong advise - don't ever forget why you have this hobby - music and movies.... I have recently just returned to Meridian (complete system) because to me the synergy of sound, uppgradability, and looks is perfect (and I don't change my system like I change shirts anymore). I wish you the best of luck and have fun. Harald

No LFE used since it's not needed and I absolutely don't like to have subs just for cinema. Or subs suited for cinema or music, a distiction I don't understand since the subs should not care about what the signal consists of. A well integrated sub should "not be heard" until you disconnect it.

Oh, crikey. Having thought about it, I actually have three systems with a Meridian component in them.
Everything has sort of grown organically, as I've upgraded a component at a time, and another room gains some form of music playback. 7 "zones" of sound (the master bedroom, dressing room and ensuite counting as a single zone between them, driven through the same (Meridian) processors, but with different power amps). As a result, networked MP3 has become pretty much the only realistic option.
The vast majority of the kit has been picked up second-hand over the years, as I worked out that a second-hand 565 walks all over a new Yamaha processor! Those of you who buy Meridian new can thank the likes of me for keeping those residual values up :-)
1: Main System
Sources: - Denon DVD-3800 (DVD and CD sources) - Rio Receiver (networked MP3) - Pioneer DBR-TF100 (UK TV receiver) - Loewe 4236 (VCR)
Processor stage: - Meridian 562V.2 - Meridian 518 - Meridian 565
Power amp stage: - Chord SPM1200C (front) - Chord 603 (rear)
Speakers: - B&W CDM7 (front) - B&W 603 (rear) - B&W "Nautilus 800 series 1" subwoofer (which is to say, too heavy to read the actual model number.)
Control: - Philips Pronto
TV: Loewe Xelos
NEXT REALISTIC UPGRADE: The speakers. Probably a set of Nautilus 802s for the front, moving the CDM7s to the rear, moving the 603s to another room.
2: Bedroom System:
Sources: - Rio Receiver (networked MP3) - Pioneer DBR-TF100 (UK TV receiver) - Yamaha "el cheapo" DVD player
Processor stage: - Meridian 562V - Meridian 565
Power amp: - Meridian 556
Speakers: - Inifiti Kappa (Various feeds to the Sonance speakers in the en-suite, and a line level feed over CAT5 using the KAT5 baluns to a Quad 34/306 systems in the dressing room.)
3: Study system: Source: Rio Receiver Amp: Meridian 551 Speakers: Rogers LS4a
Regards,
Mark

No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
