I just ordered a pair of gloss black 5200s which should be delivered within a week or so. This was about the toughest upgrade decision I have made since it changes the whole direction of my system since my G08 will go directly into the speaker instead of the whole cable->preamp->cable->amplifier->cable->speaker setup.

Thanks. One question is whether anyone thinks upgrading the power cords makes any sense. It almost seems like the Meridian way would not be to tweak with power cords.

Hi Audio,
I am looking into the same thing. I went to an audio dealer the other day and listened to some powered Genlec speakers and tried a couple of different power leads out. It does make a difference.
I purchased a PS Audio Director 4.7 recently, power conditioner/surge protector, to connect everything through and I will probably be using their power cables too. They are not cheap, about $400/m, but in the scheme of how much we are paying for M kit, a worthy investment IMHO.
Good luck with the 5200's... my front speakers of choice too, if I can find the $$$.
Cheers,
Chris

I agree that subscribing to the M DSP way would suggest that power cables would not have an effect.
I would normally tend to see power cables as more towards the snake-oil catageory than hard&fast/tangible/demonstrable tweaks.
HOWEVER
I am currently using some cables on-loan from Missing Link into my 8k's.
I have been testing the stock cable vs Orbit vs silver cryo ref.
It is beyond question that power cables DO have an impact on DSP speaker performance.
This difference is repeatable and consistent and is also to a degree verifiaable blind (MrsL had no idea what I was changing but reported the same preference and feedback each time)
The biggest issue for me though is how to determine what is actually better rather than just different.
Anyhow, with your new 5200's, I'd strongly suggest that you spend a good few months running the stock cables that M sent with them before you open up the can of worms....
Rgds, Nick

I subscribe to nickss remarks... about how to determine if power cords would make better/different your sepeakers...imho...its all in your mind! (not the same applies for power conditioners) I have a pair of 5200s and have tried different power cables...they were just "different" than the stock meridan ones...

Hello all,
I don't wish to hijack the thread but it is appropriately titled to mention that a pair of 9month old DSP5200s are up for sale on hififorsale.com priced at 4,600.
I just wanted to know if these are from a HHiker or not - I'm just curious as to why they're being sold. Apologies if for personal reasons but I've not heard a huge amount of feedback on the performance of these speakers.. if indeed its a performance issue..?
Cheers
Simon

Simon if you like the DSP's, then the 5200 are excellent speakers.
Go have a listen if you have the cash.
I have a pair myself and have compared extensively with the DSP5000, DSP5500 and DSP7000.

crion,
How did the 5200's compare to the 7000's? I have seen no reviews or comments from anyone with 7000's and not that I can afford them, but I would be curious to hear your impression (or anyone elses) in comparrison to the 5200's.
Also, have you heard the 3100's compared to the 5000's? What did you think of th comparison for surround?
Cheers,
Chris

Ok this is my personal opinion, not facts just one opnion.
The DSP7000 are very cool speakers. The amount of controlled bass output is staggering and frightening. This is just something that hits you in the chest right away when properly set up.
I find that the DSP5200 are close or on par in delicacy with the DSP7000. They are so much better than the DSP5000 in this respect.
The timbre of DSP5500 are more close to regular boxed speakers. The DSP7000 and DSP5200 have a cabinet that does much less colorations than boxed speakers imho. It is superior for the values I have.
If I had the cash for a used pair of DSP7000 I might consider going for them. But they are financially out of my reach for the time being.
Also I think the DSP5200 first version look better than DSP7000. I like the round grills much like the DSP 8000. I think they should do an updated DSP7000 MK2 with updated looks to DSP5200/8000 standard.
I have not yet heard the DSP3100, will give them a serious listen and comparing with my DSP5000 surrounds.

Nick(ncpl)wrote The biggest issue for me though is how to determine what is actually better rather than just different. Nick, how can you determine one from the other? Why not substitute "prefer" for "better" and "different"? Then you could decide reasonably quickly and spend more time listening to the "better" sound Regards, Steve
