Hello everyone,

I am new to the Forum and have taken delivery of G98 factory set to Region 1 only. I would like your advice on how I can modify it to play DVD's from all regions. Appreciate your help.

Thanks

Stephen. Do a search in the 2003 forum for "G98 multi region" and for "598 multi region". All the information is there.

Apparently the process for the G98 is the same as for the 598.

Hi Stephen

Welcome to the forum.

You will also find the region settings if you search for posts by "Mr Helpful". If you can't find it, drop me a line.

Cheers

George

George. There doesn't appear to be a "Mr Helpful" (or a "Mr helpful") any more...

Before my time and most intriguing!

Here's the most recent thread about changing the region to 1f http://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=001163#000000

In order to do this, you need a null modem serial cable (i.e. a cross over cable, not straight through)

I was wondering why you have a region 1 player in France. confused (unless you are from France but in US or vice versa)

Just a thought: If it is already set to 1f, it might just show as 1 (like 596 DVD). Worth trying a region 2 (or 3..) disc before you do anything - if you have not already.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the tips, I will suck in the breath and build the courage to do it next weekend.

Dark Lord - I think I need your help! I tried this weekend to convert the player without success. I followed the instructions closely and obviously am doing something strange. Can you please email me with your telephone details on mcleodsd@wanadoo.fr or alternatively leave your email address here.

Anyone else who is willing to take a telephone call would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Worth stating the (non?) obvious. If you set it to 2f, you get a region-free player that "officially" reports itself as region 2 player.

The problem is that i cannot seem to get the player to register the various instructions sent from windows hyperlink. I can set the Baud rate (but not the other parameters mentioned in the instructions) and type the %% style instructions in the window but they do not have an impact on the players willingness to read discs.

Probably stating the obvious again, but do you have the player in standby when doing this? You need to have it in standby. When you connect via windows hyperterminal (using a null modem cable), type each line then press enter on your laptop. Go through each line as per the instructions (on the thread mentioned) then disconnect hyperterminal. The player should be fine when you bring it out of standby, and it will show region 1 in the menu. If you've already done all this, then apologies for patronising you!

Good luck

Yes, I have done that but seems to have no impact. It just seems as though the player is not getting the instructions. I wonder if the "null modem cable" is the issue? What is it? I am using a serial connector between the PC and the cable supplied with the G98.
