I'm looking to add a sub to my system (DSP5200's front & center, DSP33's rear). Does anyone have any recomendations; the Meridian sub's don't appear to go particularly low compared to others (such as REL).
Cheers, Dave.

Just a thought, you could force them low with the MRC. Any ported designs will be limited by the port resonance frequency. I use a PV1 with my M33's - very fast but not the lowest I guess - more musical than wall shaking.

dpaws,
could you please elaborate some more what you mean by using the MRC to make the subs go low? Also, I've understood the M-subs to be non-ported? 8)

Dave- I just added the new M- sub sw5500 to my 5200front, 5000rear setup; this after looking at lots of sub options; the new M- subs sw1600, sw5500 now go as low as anything on the market - rated now down to 20Hz -3db; in my audio tests, I could find no bottom end to them for LFE, etc.; I tried dual sw5500s with my setup and found it too much; I settled on a single sw5500(dual drives) in a setup similar to yours -
I would recommend them for M- setups, where previous models I could not;
Tatu - yes - they are non-ported;

I've got a pair of Velodyne DD-15s that I'm using with the DSP5200s that I'm quite pleased with. I'm getting clean response into the 15Hz range which works out well for movies. Not needed so much for most music materal though Best,

That matches my experience John; I listened to the DD-15s and also heard a couple of the new models at CEDIA ; Excellent voice match to the M- speakers I thought;
If M- hadn't come up with the new models solving the bottom end issues, I would've opted for Velodyne, M&K, REL in that order;
any of these choices would be good from my seat. For those looking, make sure not to count out the M- subs based on passed performance - these new models resolved many of the issues, bringing them into the decision process now...

A pair of DD15's WOW !! that must sound pretty darn good john, i have 1 DD12 and it sounds superb but am considering another DD12 but do not know if my walls can take the pounding.

Ken, nice to hear that you had the possibility to listen to DD15s and still settled for the Meridian Sounds like it goes pretty low, too. If you find the time, the graph would be interesting to look at. Maybe it's not inside the -3dB threshold below 20Hz, but if it still has any punch to, say, 15Hz, that would be great, I for one am very interested in these new subs! John, would you be able to post a graph, too, showing solely the subs in action (single and dual)? Would be very interesting to see, I've understood that your room should be pretty well treated, right? As a related matter, does anyone know of any source showing how low passages do different movies and music albums have? I have been wondering for long time how low is actually necessary, if one aims for covering, say, 99% of the source material. 8/ Wbr, Tatu

Tatu- Yes, of course the Velodynes are terrific; but (and others will shoot me down no down) I really thougt the new M- sw5500 voiced better with the M- DSPs; Less boomy , but with the same punch; My application room size though didn't warrant the D15s more like the D12s, so that's what I was comparing directly (SW5500's being 12s as well);
I'll check into the graph issue more - haven't used the M- software for that as yet...

Ken - If a sub is setup correctly it should not be boomy at all, only a sub that is setup incorrectly will Boom

Over all the years I've heard alot of subs (REL, Aerial, ATC, ACT, Velodyne, SVS, B&W, B&M, M&K and so on...) and I can be very picky when it comes to accurate, fast and musical bass.
There are two subwoofers that I have found to be outstanding in performance and that are not touched by all the others I've heard.
So if you get the chance, make sure you demo the Audio Physic Minos and the Whise Profunder 624.
Both are amazing subs, but very different.
The Minos lacks a little in output, so I suggest getting two of them. It's rated 10Hz at -3dB and when hooking up two of them, they can both be adjusted with only one of the cable remotes. Very tight, fast, clean and accurate bass.
The Profunder 624 doesn't go as low as the Minos, but the output is amazing. This sub is usually used in recording studios for mastering, but there are some home installations. Amazing output, so if you can live with the fact that it won't play as low as others, this one is absolutetly worth checking out.
Be aware that the 624 is a passive subwoofer, so you need extra amplifiers which should be able to provide some power to the subs. They're coming in pairs by factory.
I have not heard the new Meridian subs yet, but I'll try to get a 5500 for a demo at home as soon as my dealer has one in stock.

Stephan- haven't heard either of these, but your description of them sounds great; I'll do a little research ans see if I can find them for an audition - thanks for the tip... ken
