George,
Do you think it would make sense to create a seperate thread for USA Meridian Users Convention? It would be easier to keep the details organized.
Just a thought.

There is a new thread to discuss convention(s) in the USA.

Surely the most receptive host would be a Meridian dealer. I refer the honourable gentleman to my post on page 2... My hope would be that a users convention would be more than a dream marketing exercise for Meridian or a dealer. If it is such, then they should be paying (Technosound stumped up for wine and munchies recently in Milton Keynes). See thread here . At this point, I don't think we've really decided what we want and, if my recent experience at Technosound is anything to go by, there would just be too many of us "experts" to enjoy a demo: We'd all want our own demo discs played, we'd all want to have a "play", and there wouldn't be enough time and/or kit for us to do this. Personally, I feel that getting together to meet each other and to discuss our common interest over drinks and/or dinner would be a far more useful and satisfying exercise than a kit demo. And yes, why not a Meridian factory tour if this could be arranged? If you want to audition, then book a demo with your local M dealer (or a friend from these forums)...

I've been thinking a bit more about this....
Unless there is direct input from M into a gathering, then it will be no more than a social gathering (nothing wrong in that as such if one is looking for a themed social)
A store may be tempted to do it, but, unless it's at their store, it's probably a bridge too far also. They might of course get a sale but this is not guarnteed as many would be likely to travel to it and would not naturally be local enough for the aftersales care.
Many years ago (c.1991) I visited the Stanneylands hotel in Knutsford, Cheshire for a Meridian demo evening. I had absolutely no idea who or what Meridian was walking in (a mate of mine talked me in to going along). However, I walked out most impressed. The demo was much better than you get at the Bristol show in that it was far more than 15mins and Bob and Allan did Q&A and literally walked us around the equipment.
The direct effect of this was that I bought my 206B. Was it any good for M in the long run ?? This is a no-brainer based on the number of little blue warranty forms I've posted back since (and the state of my finances!!)
So, I think that it may well be somthing that M could revive if they so wished.
Bob S....over to you.
Rgds, Nick

I vote for going to a pub and getting pied. But if a factory visit was ever possible, I would love to have the chance of a look around.

I`m with Ian on this one, I would also like to visit Meridian and listen to their digital theatre, the only downside to this would be that I would probably not want to listen to my system again. Meridians digital theatre consists of 3 pairs of DSP 8000`s, 861 processor and 800 DVD player, over a 100,000 system. I`ve seen the mother ships theatre but never had the opportunity to have a listen.
Meridian 800 DVD V4, DSP7200.2's

Cool - I'll see if I can find an evening between here and Xmas where I can get a pass and then stagger to a local hostelry afterwards!
