Hi Guys
Up for this, I'm in Southampton as well but happy to travel to Huntingdon. Factory tour / demo would be great. Should not be a problem, we invite our customers to our premises all the time.

I have considered most of the points raised above and would propose this:

1. This needs to be a factory visit/demo room/coffee/forum type session arranged by Meridian. I agree that this shouldn't cause Meridian a problem as our business also has factory visitors all the time.

2. If they don't respond to this thread (either yes or no) then our esteemed webmaster - or other nominee - should raise it with them in case they just haven't seen our request.

3. We leave it to Meridian as to which equipment they demo (to avoid arguments).

4. Numbers would have to be limited to what M. feel appropriate (but they could run separate morning and afternoon sessions as I see 3-4 hours as sufficient). I suggest Hitchhikers have first invites as we have relevant feedback to make and questions to ask. M could also ask us what features we would like to see on new equipment etc.

5. After meeting we could get together informally to chat and have a drink at a place of our choosing. Thus no expensive hotel bookings are needed.

Well, what do people think?

Is there a airfield closeby, or reachable by train ?

jaco,

The nearest airport to Huntingdon is East Midlands Airport (Nottingham), with direct flights to Amsterdam by BMI. The flight time is 2.5 hours. You would then need a connecting rail journey, taking an additional 1.5 hours.

However, by taking a direct train from London Kings Cross railway station to Huntingdon would only take 56 minutes.

Jaco

You should also think about Amsterdam to Stansted (Easyjet ?), then taking a cab. I think Stansted is only about 60km from Huntingdon.

Depending on the date I would also be interested.
So in that case Jaco and I could share a cab. Or rent a car, or something.

Flying with Ryanair (Eindhoven to Stanstead) seems to cost about 20 euro's, that's almost as much as a round-trip train ticket to Amsterdam from here.
Of course the fun is figuring out what gets added on to that (airport tax, fuel tax, ...)

Mark

I don't know if they still run, but there was a local "airline" that flew out of Cambridge airport a few years back. A Google may spring it up.

If this thing flies, then as far as I know I am the nearest hiker to both M and Stansted airport - so I'll offer a lift to some of international visitors.

I am near Heathrow. I would be willing to do the same for some beer (not on the night) money to cover the car parking costs. Thats assuming that the misses doesn't get wind of a 'Meridian' event and forbid me from borrowing her car - although I have been on good behaviour recently and not visited the forum for 2 weeks.

Hmm and what about us Australian's?

Are there any other Australian Meridian finatics? Melbourne would be great. Love to meet over a drink and chat about where all our money goes.

Cheers,

Chris

I would suggest that a Meridian dealer is most likely to host our event. He would love the idea of all these hi-fi buyers collected in their showroom.

My local Graham's HiFi is a great place and have 2 or three listening rooms and a largish open plan reception. Not far from Kings Cross Station in London which is well connected to Gatwick, Luton and Stanstead - Heathrow involves a change on the tube at Paddington but is still accessible.

Of course, I live within walking distance so it would be great for me!!!

Surely the most receptive host would be a Meridian dealer.

My local is Grahams Hi Fi. They are good guys with 2 listening rooms and a large open plan shop front.

They are near to Kings Cross station which is well connected to Gatwick and Luton airports plus the north of England. Within London it is well connected being on several tube lines.

Best of all ... it is walking distance from my house ....
