Then (as suggested above)
Right click in the measurements Tab and choose New.
Then only check the front 3.
You will get 60 filters across the front (after you do a manual build in the Profil Tab again with a reasonable target decay time).
It's most certainly worth an experiment to see how it sounds.

I can tell you this from experience, if you have a dramatically lower target decay than the room decay it will sopund "bass shy".
It's an OK experiment to run, but in the end he'll likely go back to something much closer to his rooms midband target decay.
I actually go the other direction. I've been tweaking to get slightly more decay (170 vs 143msec) as the room is too dry at 143msec. I have MRC set for a custom 200ms target instead of the default as otherwise it's a bit too agressively damped.
Honestly, I think that something needs to be done to address the room, at 800ms that is a very long decay time unless the dimensions approach that of a concert hall.

I don't think this has anything to do with setting to an aggressive target decay (which by all means I agree with you). As soon as you get into the range where MRC actively starts creating filters it will run out of filters pretty quickly when the limit is 7. It starts allocating many filters long before it starts setting them to agressive.
