I have just acquired some used DSP3200, which I have got connected to an AC200. I can see the firmware version of the AC200 (1.04, so I know it needs an update) but I can’t work out how to determine the firmware version for the DSP3200. Serial number is 201204, and they have all-black drivers, so is there a chance they are new enough to have the latest firmware?

I would really like to get the benefit of EBA, which if the AC200 doesn’t have the option, I am guessing won’t be operating in the speakers, even if that was enabled by the previous owner (he had them connected to a 218 but doesn’t recall if it was turned on or not)?

I have enquired with Seven Oaks Bristol about getting an update, but they are not active with Meridian anymore, so I need to wait for the member of staff who might know to return next week. If I have to send stuff away, it would be much easier to post the AC200 (especially as the speakers turned up with chipped corners 😢)

Use the Meridian Control Window programme (the remote via serial..) - Make sure the speakers are connected to the PC using a firmware update cable.

Switch to Command view; under Advanced, there is the ID command.
That will echo back to the screen what version of firmware the speakers are running.

Drop me a PM if you need any firmware.

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks.

Well, I am lacking all those constituent parts, so I guess there isn’t an easy way!

I think you can also use the WinFUP program, to check the firmware status of your speakers, when you connect them through RS232 over SpeakerLink with your PC.

WinFUP has this option, I've used it in the past for this.

3200s don't have EBA processing in any firmware version. The EBA Command just enables additional latency to keep them time - aligned with speakers that do have EBA processing. If you have a DSW then the DSW will do EBA and the 3200s will keep in time with it. If you don't have a DSW then all you get is the delay.

The presence / absence of EBA as an option in the SpeakerLink menu of the AC200 is a function of the firmware version of the AC200. Whether anything happens in the speakers when you send it is a function of the speaker firmware.

Interesting, thank you.

It is a bit confusing, as EBA is clearly mentioned on the current product page (albeit under the new name), but I am sure I recall Richard Hollinshead saying that it wasn’t needed in the 3200 as they didn’t go deep enough, so I was surprised to see it mentioned.

I will still pursue the AC200 update and see if I notice any difference.

If you have the chance to buy Meridian M6's, they do have integral EBA - and they sound wonderful in a simple stereo system.

As far as I know, whilst 1.2.0 is indeed the latest firmware for the DSP3200s, that list is horribly out of date and 'new' needs to be taken with a strong pinch of salt.

Sorry - I don't think that page is still maintained.

The 808 and 818 are currently at v4.19
The DSP8000SE have firmware v3.16

If in doubt, check with a dealer...

Cheers,

Steve
