861s Prior to 861-100450 cost more to upgrade than one with a SN > 100450. I think when I investiagated some units on agone about 3 months ago the price difference was about $1000 for units undr 450 which needed to go back to England.
back has $3955.00. I beleive there was about a 10% increase in Junne bringing the price up to about $4300. I'm still waiting for a quote on upgrading the units I own now: an 800 v3 to v4 & and 861 v2.81 to v4 (sn >100450).
I have asked dealers about upgrades and a couple have said that they don't have much room to deal saying that the margins on the uprgade were low.

Hey BMcelvaney,

It strikes me that there is no ethical dilemma with backing out of the bidding process on this item whatsoever. The processor in question was being represented as a current V4.1 unit. It isn't. Send the seller a courteously worded explanation to that effect and that should be the end of it. You could simply cut and paste a few of the more knowledgable responses to this thread into your email to the seller.

Happy Trails!

Just to clarify, the prices I was quoted was back in summer of 03 - so the price has risen with the dollar devaluing against the pound.

I had to pay for my wedding last year, and so sold the 861 instead to raise much need funds! Thankfully I was able to jump on the Audiogon G68J, and am back in Meridian heaven - I'm very impressed with this, and MRC.

If this unit is upgraded to V4 then Meridian America will tell you straight away. They also put a large upgrade sticker on the side of the box so that would say also. I think the seller is confused. I bet he has been told that Meridian have updated the software when it was there and he is putting 2 & 2 together and coming back with V4.
My bet is it's a version 2 with the newest software, whatever that may be.

There was an eBay auction running by the same seller, concurrent with the AudiogoN auction. The eBay auction lasted about 8hrs and then their fraud department canceled the it.

I emailed AudiogoN about this information.

The seller has just e-mailed me and indicated that the person who posted the add for him made a mistake on the FW version. Asw we all were suspecting it is a 2.x 861 with V2.81 installed.
It looks like he Cancled the Auction. He will prob repost with correct info. He sent me a copy of the Repair info From M. I'm quite sure he wasn't trying to scam anyone looks like it was an honest mistake.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Anyone hava a sugestion for a processor to use while my 861 goes in for upgrade.
I need the following on the unit I'm would consider
a 5xx or G series:
at least 2 analog inputs
2 Coax digital
1 optical digital
3 S-video inputs
digittal out for LRC
analog out for Rears
If I keep it for a second room can I use the
digital aux out or do is the TP00 the only way to
do multi-room?

I sent a e-mail to agone support last night. I did notice the auction has disappeared. I have not received any e-mail fro audiogone. The seller is at leaset sending e-mail that appears to be coming from an AV installer from Austin TX.
I haven't tried a search on the username since the add disapeared to see if agone revoked the userid. I usualy downlad and save any ad I'm watching but I didn't do that this time. My daily reports might have the username..I'll check.

I did get an e-mail that appeared to be a invoice
that indicated a repar to the PS. upgrade to 2.81. & an 800 Series box.

This seems all to weird. He was clearly trying to advertise it as the latest and just recently upgraded. Still in the box from M upgrade and V4.1. This guy is a Scammer or incredibly stupid.

George,

I'm feeling kink of stupid for placing a bid on the item. The 4.1 had me wondering early on (why not 4.2??) but then I didn't know what JUST meant.
After hitting the BID button The IE16 thing just didn't sit right with me.

It looks like the audiogon account has been suspended or cancled (I did a lookup based on sellers e-mail).

He has contacted me since asking how much i would pay. I suggested he re-post for auction,
I have a business associate that lives in the Austin TX area I may ask the seller if my friend can come buy and check the unit out...

I think I'm going to pick up something like an 568.2 while my 861 is out for repair.
I'll have to figure out if I need a 562V?
What are the major diffs between
562V 562v2 and 562V3. I only see the 562v3 specs on the M web page.
