Hi All

I have what can only be described as a “vintage” home cinema setup being a G68J, UHD722, DSP5000C, and DSP5000s for the rears. Front L/R are Naim SL2s driven by a NAP300. It may be old, but it still sounds great!

I’m considering replacing my OLED TV with a projector and an acoustically transparent screen. I appreciate the image quality won’t match the OLED, but I think the overall experience would be a lot more fun.

One practical constraint is that I don’t like looking up at the screen, so it would need to sit quite low. That, in turn, means my current centre (DSP5000C) would need to be replaced with a DSP520.2 in-wall solution.

Does anyone know how close is it likely to be sonically to the DSP5000C and whether the DSP520.2 would integrate with a G68J/UHD722-based system?

Thanks!

If you’re going to use an acoustically transparent screen, there should be no need for an in-wall - the centre speaker can just sit behind the screen.

3 5K5s is a phenomenal home theatre (and music!) setup. Don’t let age fool you, they are genuinely superb!

That's a good point. I should have explained that the screen needs to go up against the wall, otherwise it will interfere with the left and right front speakers and just won't look right!

Could you not bash a hole in the wall and sit the DSP5000 in the hole smirk
Make a wooden box for the hole, then buy a grill to cover the box & hole, there are companies who'll make the grill to the size of the hole very similar looking to Merdians in wall grills.

You could pick up some DSP5200.2s for near the same price as the Meridian 520 in wall centre, money better spent, i have some 5200.2s they're pretty good even on their own not through a processor, a bargain at today's prices.
They kind of sonically match an old M60c, the predecessor to the DSP5000c (or matches enough for the £100 the M60 cost)

2k+ is a lot of money for centre speaker, sure some can afford it, but seems a bit much regardless.
If i ever go inwall, i'll also bash some holes in the wall or add a false wall, then sit regular Meridian speakers in the wall and have grills commissioned.
Loads of money saved.

I have to ask, how deep are the walls in your house that you could insert a DSP5000C in?

A nice idea but it's an internal wall and not deep enough for the DSP5000C to fit.

If your carpentry skills are up to it you could consider a rebuild cabinet for the 5000C?

I have no carpentry skills at all but I'm sure I could find someone who does.

Then it would be doable if you keep the internal volume and reflexports the same.
