Had an 861v8 for six years. Starting last week, when it is turned on from the remote (or front panel) it has no sound, and the volume display update is about 500ms delayed from the speakers updating. Fully powering off at the wall fixes it. It previously had the same problem about six years ago when I had the ethernet cable plugged into the ID41 card. Then I just unplugged the ethernet card and its worked fine until about a week ago.

Thoughts and suggestions? Hoping someone here will know the definitive answer before I just start unplugging various things and cards! grin

Setup:
861v8
UHD722
Single AC12 for master speaker, comms (center/sub) rest with DIY cable.
DSP5000v1 gear.

Hi,

I would advise reseating all the cards, especially the hidden DSP cards.

The unit should have an LPSU, so I doubt that will be causing any issues, but it may be worth checking voltages.

If that doesn't sort it, try removing cards one by one. You'll need the digital input and output cards, the two hidden DSP cards and the CO00 comms card as a minimum.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Steve

I agree with Steve on his procedure, but my experience says that it is good to use an electronics cleaning spray and spray it on the contacts of the cards and backplane.

Well, finally got around to taking it out of my system, but not got as far as opening it up. Spent the time wiring my speakers back up directly to my Oppo 203 Vanity. Have the Apple TV going to the Oppo, but the PS5 just doesn't want to play, and my TV is the last of the Sony 3D TVs so no eARC. Honestly, if the Oppo didn't have horrendous popping when I change source, or the source changes format, I'd not even bother with anything else. It sounds amazing. But alas, the PS5 is coming out as stereo not matter what I try.

On the bright side, got permission from the wife to order an Altitude CI from Bruce (CMB)! Actually what she said is "Your Christmas present isn't the new hifi. Your Christmas present is that I won't complain about it when you buy it." 😂

Well, bah humbug. Took the cards out and reseated them. Have to say it's absolutely mint inside - I guess that what happens when you have no fans sucking in dust. Alas, this did not fix the issues. So now it's off to Marc for a proper fixing. Then I shall be selling it.
