After many years of discounting Trifield in favour of direct I have now persevered and find it spectacular.
I put this down to my centre speaker not being broken in and the fabulous iPlayer house/rave content available.
A night in with a bit of quality house music, big screen, Meridian Trifield, sorted.
I still don’t really understand the depth adjustment however, all is so good no worries.

Trifield can be fantastic, you running 3 or more speakers? You can really make some immersive and enjoyable imaging.

If you think it's good with 3 'speakers, wait until you try it with 5 (or more)...

PS make sure the rears are voiced the same as the mains / centre.

All the best,

Steve

Nice mix of kit here chaps but I'm sorry to say, a CD in Direct on my 808.5 & 8K's just blows everything away!

Completely agree. Trifield is amazing with 3 genuinely matching speakers (I mean literally the same - 3x vertical identical speakers). It is even more spectacular with 5 and a sub 😎

6Ks and particularly 8Ks Trump everything.

Imagine what 3x 6K or 8K sounds like…!

On that note I am still on the (futile) hunt for a 6kC. I know the 55h is a good center but it... isn't a 6k.

I had 6's before I got my 7's and always felt the bass just overwhelmed everything. However, the 8's bass is perfect but I guess that a lot of the more than double power 300w vs 750w of the 8's is used to process the output rather than just being louder. In fact I mostly listen at 60 rather than the default of 65 with the 8's.

I’ve had 6Ks twice. First time bass was overwhelming, second time it was all perfect. Same room. Tweeters and re-cap on the second pair - makes a huge difference on 6Ks as they tend to be quite old by now… Also periodically carefully re-tighten bass drivers - nothing crazy, just nip them up to make sure they’re not loose.

Also important to position well in the room. The second time I played a little more and found more of a sweet spot.

I’ll give you a few tips that I enjoyed in my setup.

Trifield:
1. Max width 1.5, gives better integration and lets more sound into the L R.
2. Remove the xover cutoff in the sides/rear if you have full range sides/rears.
3. Position the 3 fronts on a circle equidistant from listening position.
Depth affect the timing of the centre in relation to the L R. Every .5 or full sounds different in timing.
4. If you made L C R equidistant from your listening position consider depth 0.
