Hi All, I have a pair of 5200SL and a 218 running with a gen1 Sonos Connect. All has been working very well and very happy with it. I recently added my TV via optical but no other changes I can remember.
The sound has become very muffled, almost mono and nothing like it was.
I have been trying to troubleshoot swapping out cables and reconfiguring everything but can't seem to make a difference, they sound terrible.
My configuration is: Sonos Connect connected via Coax to the 218. Cat6 cables from 218 slave and master to the required speakers. I have set the speakers to type 5. When I try and check the configuration pressing clear one speaker turns on and displays AUTO then CON, the other does nothing. If I select a source they turn on but the sound is poor.
Any suggestions on what I may have done wrong or if there is a fault I would very much appreciate it.
Many Thanks

Hi Ian,
Have you tried re-typing the speakers and making sure that the Left speaker is set to Left and the Right speaker is set to Right?
It could be as simple as you have both speakers configured as Left...
Make sure only one speaker is set to Master.
Also, check if there is any output from the tweeters.
It is remotely possible that there is a hardware issue - possible DSP/Amp/driver problem...
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I thought I had done that but it does not seem to be storing so both seem to keep becoming left master RJ45.
Process I am following is:
Power up with 1 help on remote Adjust the right speaker to be R S RJ45 Power off Power back on with 1 held down and it is still showing LM RJ45
Is that the correct process? Checking again they both seem to become LM RJ45, so am I not saving the configuration?

Hi Ian,
To type a speaker, hold down the type number on the remote whilst powering up the speaker.
Make the changes using the arrow keys and PLAY key. Power off the speaker.
Power back the speaker without ANY keys being pressed on the remote.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From your steps listed, the final Power back on with 1 held down will default the speaker back to LM RJ45 !!
Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve I now have them set correctly for master slave, left and right but still don't sound right. If they were traditional speakers I would say they were out of phase, it just sounds flat and wrong.

Have you set the phase correctly?
Have you set them up that everything like EBA and position is set via SL?

Are the 5200 EBA capable? If so are both speakers set to EBA SL in their setup?
Sorry it’s a repeat of the post of ThePioneer.

Hi, I can configure all of this via the 218 or via the speaker so assuming the 218 is the best option. Getting very frustrated with this now. I get the same issue either using Sonos via coax or the TV using optical so it’s not the source that is the issue.
I have checked the speakers are configured left and right. I would describe the audio as a cheap mono radio.
If it were an issue with a speaker I would have expected to only see the issue with one speaker and not both.
I have tried just about every combination of settings but not seeing any difference. It has all been working perfectly so very confused. Obviously I have changed so much now I am not sure what to do.
Speakers are set as RSRJ45 and LMRJ45 When I press Clear I see "Con" on the master speaker but nothing on the slave. The manual suggests I should see N.CON on the other speaker but I don't.
I have tried changing the phase but get no change.
I have not swapped out the 218 for a direct digital connection, not sure what else I can try.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.

The speakers have to be configured to accepting adjustment of its settings by the processor. That means that both speakers have to be configured in all possible settings to SL separately. I have had kind of a similar problem as described here. Take notice of the sixth post in the treat (Bruce).

Can you try using a digital source directly to the master speaker via coax? Then you can rule out the 218.
Maybe try different cat cable from your 218 to the speakers. Master out to master speaker and slave to slave speaker.

Maybe the tilt setting are maxed out to one side. You need either get the 218 working so you can control the settings with the 218 or you need to access the setup menu of the speaker manually so you can change the tone control. Hope you get it working, the speakers are great, hold on.
