The saved pennies are mounting up. I had been saving for an Altitude32, but the Altitude CI is Altitude16 money. The Altitude CI will undercut the price for a Storm|Audio ISP EVO - and Lyngdorf MP-60 with AES/EBU output module. I was only buying the Altitude32 for that single digital DB25 AES/EBU output module - and unnecessarily paying for multiple analogue outputs that I’m unlikely to use in my circumstances. The Altitude CI’s 2u compact form-factor is the same as the Meridian 271, and is ideal for a modest shared living space - and more practical than the 3.5u proportions of the Altitude32. A few months ago, I was poised to buy a Lyngdorf MP-60 with AES/EBU output module, and had secured a very good deal, but when I pressed the Lyngdorf/Meridian dealer, they admitted that they were not convinced by RoomPerfect compared to Optimizer. If the authorised Lyngdorf dealer didn't have confidence in the product, then I wasn’t prepared to take such an expensive risk.

Don't I have a memory of you telling us that your dealer (presumably a different one) suggested that they would be hard pressed to tell a Trinnov & a Lyngdorf apart, in SQ terms? Or perhaps my memory fails me...

Close, but not close enough… A Meridian/Trinnov/Storm|Audio dealer claimed that they could not discern any difference in performance between their Altitude32 and Elite32. Another Meridian/Lyngdorf/Trinnov dealer I approached also indicated that they were unconvinced by RoomPerfect compared to Optimizer. Here is the experience of a fellow Hitchhiker… I kept it for a year, but eventually traded it in for a 16 channel Trinnov 32. Expensive way of going about it, I know.
The Lyngdorf was very easy to set up and calibrate, but to my ears, after a while, it always ended up sounding a little thin and dry. One can't set the decay time as one could with the Meridian 861. There was limited scope for other adjustments, at least compared to the Trinnov.
Also, easy as it was to perform, recalibration on the MP-60 never gave me the same result twice whereas I found the Trinnov to be much more consistent.
In the Lyngdorf's favour, the interface and remote are friendlier, both better looking and better organised than that those of the Trinnov. Both processors' AES connections worked well with the 271: no pops or cut-outs.
Would I buy a Lyngdorf again? Possibly for a family room surround system supporting a large telly, as it is easier for a casual user to come to grips with.
I can't speak to the video side of either of their HDMI boards, as I use a Lumagen as my video switch; first HDMI out to the projector, second HDMI out to the audio processor.
Please don't get me wrong, I liked the MP-60 enough to buy it to replace my 861, and I enjoyed the access to the modern codecs it gave me access to for films, but for music, in that room, it just didn't draw me in in the same way. Elsewhere, in a livelier room, it might have been different.
My room, though largeish (9m x 5.5m), has low ceilings (2m). It consequently needs some bass management to deal with awkwards room modes. My old 861 and the Trinnov dealt with them better than the MP-60 as they allowed for user selectable target RT60 decay times. I suspect the Lyngdorf just threw in too many filters, but there is no way of knowing as that info is opaque to the end user. In a more standardly proportioned room it would have likely done much better.

David Meryerowitz from Trinnov provides an overview of the Altitude CI and, separately, the redesigned Optimizer. Note, Meryerowitz admission that Dante does not deliver quality audio. If you want quality audio performance, use the analogue or digital outputs. Additionally, Trinnov has revealed their first video on the Altitude CI.

Courtesy of Trinnov; the Altitude CI HDMI board can be upgraded as future specifications change.

Note, Meryerowitz admission that Dante does not deliver quality audio. If you want quality audio performance, use the analogue or digital outputs. We need to keep in mind that we have accepted 44k CDs as quality Audio for over 30 years. There is very little movie content over 48k. Dante is really meant for large installations where components may be some distance apart. In a Meridian DSP installation, or hybrid there of, Dante isn't even a consideration. The biggest reason, besides price, to use the CI with its intention to be used in a DSP installation is the higher digital channel availability.

The biggest reason, besides price, to use the CI with its intention to be used in a DSP installation is the higher digital channel availability. Plus, confirmed with Trinnov, if so desired, you could utilise 2 x Meridian 271's for two separate 16-channel home-cinema systems. Alternatively, run a 16-channel Meridian system in one room via DB25, and a second system via Dante RJ45 cabling to a Dante equipped Amplitude16 in another room. The caveat is that you cannot operate 2 separate systems at the same time on the Altitude CI (unlike Storm|Audio).

I suspect there will quickly be a waiting list given its comparatively modest price.
