Today, i wouldn't advocate anyone buying both products together, given their current pricing - but I purchased my 218 and 210 when first introduced (both models purchased together were cheaper than buying either single product today).

While 218 is Sooloos oriented, and 210 is fully RAAT compliant, you wouldn't hear any difference in their respective/individual performance. However, by linking the 218 and 210 with a high quality RJ-45 cable, it will substantially improve the quality of their combined audio performance.

Hi there - I’m interested to know what is going on if you do that? Would the 218 still be doing upsampling.. ? How does adding another box in the chain improve audio quality? I’d like to understand how it can improve audio quality i.e. what is it doing to the digital files before they go to the DSP speakers?
Cheers

I have no idea...

Originally, I used a Meridian Cat7 SpeakerLink cable. Then, I purchased 2 x Audioquest Vodka RJ-45 cables - and replaced the Meridian cable for one of the Audioquest cables between my 218 and 210. It made an immediate difference.

Some day, I might upgrade the Vodka for a Diamond.

IIRC, 'Jeremy AH' has utilised Audioquest Vodka RJ-45 cables for connecting to his Meridian DSP's, with impressive results.

Thanks. It would be interesting to hear from anyone else who has tried it, or from a Meridian dealer who knows why it might be. To me it feels like using two preamps in series and I’m just not sure why we’d want to do that. It would be hard for me to get a demo of such a set up and I don’t have £1400 to take a risk.

Yes but that’s just dealing with cables I think. I would like to understand what’s going on with using two preamps in series and why that is making things sound better.

Wiim ultra seems great so far but looks like a g65 is limited to 24bit 96khz for some reason through coaxial input. G65 is rated to 192khz? Or just the dsp5200se are?

Meridian digital outputs up to 96khz.

Typically, Meridian upsamples analogue outputs up to 192khz..

Latest DSP's will output up to 352khz with a suitable MQA recording.

Is this the same with 218? Max 96khz? I can't get anything to show as 192khz on my dsp5200se through wiim and qobuz connect

96khz is the maximum you will get. An MQA file may show higher rates, but Qobuz doesn’t have such files. Tidal still does, though claims not to and will doubtless be removing them over time. We await a possible new MQA streaning service, but lt is a very long time coming.

Is this just a limitation of Meridian equipment? Qobuz claim to have 192khz files.
