I don't remember since it was years back when I sent my G98 for repair.

Anyway, I found online G68J manual and there is a D7 digital input for 2 channel CD player. Currently, what I do is to unplugged one of the three digital outputs from G98, the main (L/R) one and replace it with digital cable out from Naim streamer.
Do you think this will solve it? Is there setting to be changed for the D7 input to be active? It looks like a default setting. I will try it this evening when I get home.

If you unplugged one of the digital inputs for the G98, it was most likely set up as a multichannel input and would explain what you see going on with Trifield. Getting into the G68 and setting the input to two channel should fix that for you.

I think this is the case. It is plugged into multi channel section. Not sure if I can just plug it into D7 without reconfiguring the input of G68. I will try it this evening and let you know. Thanks.

Something strange happened. I configured the CD input, set to D7, it did not have any sound from streamer.
Then I plugged digital output from G98 also no sound. So I tried to set CD audio input to MD2 and it works with the streamer having Trifield DSP mode.

I kept it playing from streamer to about 45 minutes or so the display became Discrete instead of Trifield but the sound was still coming on from 3 speakers. Then when I pressed DSP mode again, the sound dropped from the center channel and became 2 channel.
Still on MD2 input, I plugged my G98 into it and it works with Trifield setting and stayed that way. Is it something wrong with the streamer?

It is frustrating don't know what to do. I set the type to type 3 all digital and large center.
Any suggestion?

I also activated other digital input it did not work either even with CD player digital out. When I used analog tape input 2 channel, it worked with Trifield DSP setting.
So, I don't know what happen with the digital input. The sound quality is not as good as the digital one when Trifield worked for a while. So, I try to make the digital input works.

For Naim streamer I set the digital output to BNC and PCM SPDIF checked.
Maybe the format of digital output from Naim is not compatible. Like I said, it worked for a while then stopped working. I am using Naim NSS 333 streamer, their latest streamer. I did set the Qobuz output for 96Khz max.

After many trials, I finally was able to make it worked.

For some reason I could not active CD D7 digital input. So I put the streamer digital out into VCR2 which is D9 input. it works with Trifield DSP setting. The digital connection sound is significant better than the analog input.

I keep the multichannel digital input MD1 for G98 when I play CD.

I also activated multi channel MD2 for CD player input. I plugged the main digital out from G98 into it and it worked and I can still have Trifield DSP mode and many more.

So everything is good now. But it is puzzling why the D7 input did not work. Thank you for all your input, it is really helpful.
