OK I got everything setup.

Interesting approach that avoids unnecessary devices in the chain (aka a separate streaming device).

I tuned off post processing and set the voicing to music.

Initial take, atmos remixes sound great, noticeable difference. Everything else compared to uncompressed 44.1/16, I don't hear a difference.

One thing, the gain on the atmos material, is way lower, even when I go to 0dB it is not super loud.

I enquired on why Lyngdorf chose to use ‘Tidal Connect with Dolby Atmos’ rather than facilitating Tidal/Atmos via Roon (like Trinnov)…

If sufficient Roon users request it we will probably look into the task of implementing support for multichannel files through Roon. It would require a lot of work, and at the moment we have other important tasks with higher priority.

On searching the Roon forum of the limited 2 channel Tidal functionality on Roon I found this response..

So, if any Lyngdorf owner is willing to experiment with a direct HDMI connection between their Roon server and their MP-40/60, we can ascertain whether multi-channel Atmos music playback is actually possible directly from Roon/Tidal.

You can increase the volume against a specific source but only up to 20dB. I have increased my Auro 2/3d by 15dB. That brings it in line with the other up mixer volumes.

That works. Only thing is that is adds gain to the entire input, not just Atmos material

Can you create a phantom source for Atmos only? I haven’t tried anything like that yet.

I don't think you can create as source based on a format input...

I think you are correct. The source needs to point to an input and it is the input that you increase the Decibels.

TY guys for turning me on to Tidal.

I did an extended listening session today.

Good selection that sounds as good as anything I have on my locals storage. Atmos material (there isn't a ton of it yet but a decent selection) is really amazing. best I have ever heard on my system.

The Tidal/MP40 combination is really awesome.

Re preset for Atmos settings (needs more gain and turn off processing), I guess I can make another input so Tidal and Tidal Atmos and do it that way.

On my Tidal iPhone app I searched for ‘Dolby Atmos’ (and selected ‘Albums’): there’s more than sufficient Dolby Atmos content there to keep you busy for weeks if not months.

I wonder; had Meridian included ‘Tidal Connect’ on the 210 as originally intended, if such Dolby Atmos music would have become a reality via the 210 - and then connected to an AVP via SpeakerLink to a 271.

On further interaction with Lyngdorf HQ, regarding multi-channel music album playback from Roon via HDMI output…

When you use a HDMI input audio tracks will be decoded if the decoder knows the format. So various Dolby and DTS formats are decoded, both bitstream and PCM. While the HDMI input will typically carry a video signal as well when the processor is used in a Home Cinema setup, it can handle audio only tracks as well, and you can set up a source that has audio only from a HDMI input.
