This isn’t about a cable debate. But a Cat7 Ethernet is both easy and cheap to make. Your links are perfect. Russ Andrew’s cables are ridiculously priced.

Russ Andrew’s cables are ridiculously priced. The prices are determined by Meridian, not by Russ Andrews.

They are cat5/6 Ethernet with RJ45 connectors. What cables do I need? No cables are supplied with the product as you can use standard Ethernet cabling as long as it is STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) CAT 5 or 6 cable. You may need to meet additional standards when installing cable in-wall, but as far as SpeakerLink is concerned, CAT 5/6 STP is all there is to it.

You may not be aware that St Edd (MrTechGuy) tested/auditioned multiple brands of Ethernet Cable while working directly for Meridian. Their choice of the Meridian branded cables was determined on their better ‘sounding’ ability compared to all the other Ethernet cables they tested with Meridian DSP’s.
Your money, your choice as always: you have the choice to buy budget Ethernet cables, and if you’re happy with their audio performance then that’s perfectly understandable. There are plenty of cable sceptics everywhere. I’m not one of them, and I’m not about to convince you on why you should buy Meridian SL Cables in preference to cheap-as-chips alternatives.
However, the OP did specifically ask for advice on procuring shorter lengths of Meridian SL Cables.

I am quoting from Meridian's own documentation. I do not wish to get into a cable debate, just providing the OP with the information from the manufacturer.

I've read in different places and also found out myself that the really cheap cables sometimes aren't even made of copper.

If the cable has the suffix CCA, it’s copper clad aluminium, not just copper. The cheaper manufacturers sell this stuff for installation, no respectable installer would use it as the max length drops to 50m.

The spec required is Cat5. You can buy a high quality 5m Cat8 Ethernet cable for under £10. This really is a none issue. Shorter cables are obviously a bit cheaper.

FWIW, sometime ago, I replaced the Meridian Cat7 SpeakerLink cable connecting my Meridian 218/210 with an Audioquest Vodka cable. The subsequent improvement in audio performance from the 218/210 was a significant upgrade. Such was the superior improvement wrought by the Vodka cable, one of these days, on impulse, I’m tempted to replace it with an Audioquest Diamond cable.
