Not sure if this is the right category but perhaps the mods will move my enquiry to the correct one.

When my 8KSE's were installed, the engineer used an Autoglym product to polish them. When I searched on amozon or fleabay the autoglym products claim to polish out small scratches on paintwork etc.

This is about the last thing I want to do, so what do HHers recommend.

Thanks

To remove scratches by hand even with a specialist proper polish is hard work. It was very likely something like Autoglym super resin polish. Which would remove finger marks and leave a nice smooth finish.
After that ‘Mr Sheen’ will leave a nice finish and helps repel dust.

The speakers aren't painted with normal paint but are done with a resin paint.
Polishing scratches is indeed very hard as it doesn't react the way normal paint does but I understand that's not the problem in your case.

So you should stay away from any scratch removers, polish etc. You can use a normal car wax but that can leave some white residue in ridges and small air pockets in the coating etc. I use Maguire wax, which isn't cheap but is very good. But before using it you should clean the surface.

I would stay away from products with silicone in it. If in the future the speaker gets damaged and needs to repaired with spraypaint, silicone can coase al kind of problems

Turtle Wax makes a product called Jet Black, which is a kit for use on black auto finishes. It happens to work extremely well on piano black DSP speakers.

I have previously posted on the efficacy of Monitor Audio "Sheer Brilliance" Lacquer Polish. An Auto Glym product. Stated to be designed to replenish high gloss lacquer finish on all so finished loudspeakers.
Carefully applied on my chosen Orange Meridian collection it is a perfect application. I have no connection to AutomGlym.

It is sold as
https://www.autoglym.com/extra-gloss-protection.html

It’s a nice product, but you have to be careful not to over apply it, or it becomes a PITA to remove. Just use AG super resin polish or the sample size of dodo juice wax.

Thanks for this, I had missed your previous post. I bet those volcanic orange DSPs look fabulous after a good polish!

And +1 on the advice to avoid any products with silicone, you really don’t want that around if you ever need a respray.

To be fair they would sand it to death before a respray so any silicone would be gone.

Sanding doesn't remove silicone, it gets rubbed deeper into the material and that material becomes more porous when you sand it..
You can ad a anti silicone addition into the solvent used to decrease and some of the same additive in the paint but no guaranties

Thank you all for your advice.

As the choices were quite diverse, I contacted HQ Lacquer the company Meridian use for restoring speakers and the advice was, for general cleaning, Windolene or similar with a microfibre cloth.

Thought I would give that feedback!
