Can anyone confirm if the digital Coaxial aux output of the G98DH supports the 5.1 multichannel LPCM from a DVD Audio multichannel media disc??
If yes, my Trinnov Altitude 16 is only receiving 2ch PCM. Confirmed via meters on Trinnov.

As far as I’m aware, the Aux output on the G98 only supports 5.1 Dolby Digital or 2 ch PCM, so that’s why your processor is reporting 2ch. You can’t squeeze 6 full pcm audio channels into a single digital coax input.

The G98 will only pass multichannel into a Meridian processor from the L/R, C/Sub and Surround outputs. It can only do that because the Meridian processor has three separate digital inputs that work in parallel with each other. This type of input is found only on Meridian systems. I have no experience of the Trinnov, but i’m sure it doesn’t have inputs that would handle that type of multichannel output from the G98 player.

Brian, Thanks for your reply. Regretably I believe your assessment is spot on. I'm bummed out that I can't use my G98DH DVD player for DVD 5.1 audio discs with my new Trinnov DSP
I have a large collection of DVD Audio discs.
Not certain if any Manufactures still make a hight quality, audiophile, DVD Audio player.

I think that the Sony UBP X800 M2 UHD player can play DVD audio discs, so you might check out that option. Hopefully, someone with a bit more experience of DVD audio will have some thoughts.

If you have lots of DVD-Audio discs and use DSP mains, an 861v8 is the ultimate processor, really. What led you down the Trinnov path? Are you planning to use more than 7-channels in the future, or something?

Current premium DVD-Audio players: Reavon UBR-X200 and Magnetar UDP900.

Doesn't the g98 output 5.1 channels up to 96k on the Aux digital output when configured to type 3-5 and MHR off? I am not at home so I can't mock this up to verify.

Bruce, I set the G98 to type 5. Multichannel selected for Aux. Turned off MHR. No multichannel 5.1 LPCM output received via aux out to Trinnov 16 digital input. Output meters on Trinnov only receiving PCM 2ch.
It appears either the Trinnov cannot support 5.1 LPCM signals or the G98 does not support 5.1 LPCM VIA Aux output.


The below was copied from the G98 setup mannul.

Select this option For this application
Preamp – An Out (Type 0) To use the DVD player as a preamplifier, connected via the analogue outputs to a power amplifier or
analogue active speakers. All the other Application options provide fixed analogue outputs.
Preamp – Aux Out To use the DVD player as a preamplifier, connected via the AUX DIGITAL output to a pair of DSP
loudspeakers or a digital surround controller.

Preamp – Dig Out (Type 1) To use the DVD player as a preamplifier, connected via the L/R MAIN DIGITAL output to a pair of DSP
loudspeakers or a digital surround controller.

Transport (Type 3/4/5) To connect the DVD player to the multichannel inputs of a Meridian digital surround controller via the L/R,
C/LFE, and SURR MAIN DIGITAL outputs.

Surround (Type 6) To connect the DVD player LR, C/LFE, and SURR MAIN DIGITAL outputs directly to DSP loudspeakers.

Great question. I was looking for HDMI switching, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby True support. Additionally the audio bennefits of the Trinnov optimizer EQ.

With an HD621, or UHD722, you can get either of those formats into an 861.

Trinnov room correction is said to be very good. I have found MRC to be excellent, though, and not affect anything above modal frequencies.

3dit0r How are you proposing to get dd+ into the 861.

on your other question , coaxial digital can never transport more than two channel 96/24 PCM, This is why the MHR connection uses three coaxial connections when using the Meridian HDMI switchers.
