Hi,

My system is Meridian DSP5200.2 (L+R speaker) and the HD621. In that system the left DSP5200 is the master and controller.

The HD621 (coax out) is connected to the master speaker (coax input). The left and right speaker are connected with SpeakerLink connection.

To use the HD621 I have to turn it on/off and change the source manually (by pressing the appropriate hard key on the HD621) but I'd rather use the MSR remote control.

For that the HD621 (BNC comms) is connected to the master speaker (BNC comms input) but it's not working.

Can somebody give me some advice.
Thanks

Do you have MConfig? You might have to do a bit of configuration of your HD621, (and possibly your master speaker) by the sounds of it…

Firstly, though, try this:

Put the system into standby. Press the CLEAR button on the MSR remote. You should see the master speaker flash up that it is controller. You won’t see anything on the HD621, as it’s got no alphanumeric display, but this will at least tell it that it is not the controller in the system.

Then bring the system out of standby by selecting a known source.

Post back with what happens when you have done this.

Yes, I have configured the HD621 using the Meridian Configuration program for 2-channel system. I inserted my sources and the speakers and stored the settings.I have not found any settings for the comms. Everything is turned off and on again. I pressed CLEAR button on the remote and the master speaker displayed that it is controller. The HD621 still doesn’t respond to the MSR command.

Hi,

Can you try connecting to the BNC comms output.

Regards,
Carl

1 check and double check the comms cable.. Try a different one, re-connect.
2 does the speaker respond if you control manually from the HD621?
3 if you have the speakers and the HD621 in an ON state, does the OFF key work on the MSR?
4 Are the sources configured exactly the same on the speakers and the HD621?

Reason for asking is that M equipment will simply ignore a source command that it doesn’t have in its own list, so with the HD621 only able to see 6, it’s quite easy to miss. It will only turn on if it gets a source command which it recognises. OFF is universal.

Hi,

How do you have the Audio tab set up in the HD621 properties?

The manual suggests that the second row MHR connection should be set to ‘none’ when connected directly to DSP speakers.

Similarly are the sources set up for 2 channel PCM?

Just a thought.

Brian

Recently been playing with my DSP7200s and HD621 and can confirm the configuration should work.

In my case (for various reasons) I removed an 818 and replaced it with a G68, then replaced that with the HD621 direct.

Now I do not remember changing the Type on the DSPs so they probably remain at Type 5 or Type 6, i.e. telling the speaker to output source changes over comms. This configuration is covered on page 32 of the DSP speaker manual.

So perhaps your problem is actually in the DSPs and not the HD621?

Good luck.

Hi Gianni,

If I understand you correctly, settings on the DSPs should be Type 1 (Standard setting for 2-channel system), right?

Thanks for help.

I also think it might be something to do with this, or possibly a mix of the speaker and HD621 comms settings being at odds with each other. It’s an unusual setup, with an HD621.

By the way, I don’t think it’s anything to do with MHR settings in the HD621, I’ve run that both ways and it worked either way (so I left MHR on).

Edit: check the source and comms settings in the speaker config menu, and also the comms settings in MConfig for each source on the HD621, make sure they match exactly.

Does anyone know what the Comms Type and Address should be for an HD621 source in the speaker source config menu?
