Searched and couldn’t find this issue,
I have just got back from holiday after a week away.
My Meridian 568 won’t power on now. No green dot.
Changed power cable to a tested and working one.
Nothing.
any ideas?

Thanks for reply.
Has no idea that was there. Just popped it out and it looks like it’s popped, some brown discolouration in it towards the centre.
I’ll look for some replacements.

There’s usually a spare in the fuse carrier. I have had a couple of items blow the specified fuse and be quite happy when a new one is fitted, they must run close to the fuse rating? Clearly if it pops the replacement further investigation is called for.
Main system; 861v8 ID41, DSP8000SEU fronts with DSP5500 centre and DSP7000 rears (all in lovely silver) 504, HD621 Second system 861v4 ID40 LPS, G98DH, 504, HD621, 2x DSP5200 with DSP5200 centre MD600 tucked away in study. Lots of other Meridian!

Hi
Normally the holder has a spare of the correct rating, however, depending on the service history of the unit, a blown fuse may indicate additional issues.
I suggest you contact Steve (swpnt) to get a second opinion, servicing will improve and preserve yur 568 in top working condition.
Cheers
Jon

Thanks all, there wasn’t a spare.
I’ve ordered some. I do plan to get the 568 and the 6ks serviced.
I’m in North Wales and don’t know of anyone to do it locally.
So will likely send to Steve.

568 + 6Ks is a lovely system, well worth a good service and new tweeters. I found new tweeters and caps utterly transformed the pair I had a few years back.

568 + 6Ks is a lovely system, well worth a good service and new tweeters. I found new tweeters and caps utterly transformed the pair I had a few years back. The fuse has been replaced and all is good in my sonic universe. Yes it is wonderful and an utter bargain for what I paid. The tweeters are black so I am convinced they have been replaced as the original are silver. I took them out and they are the new model, can’t remember the model number. I haven’t been brave enough to take the amps out yet to see if they have been recapped. What improvements did you experience ?

Hi Paul,
Pleased to hear that the 568 is sorted. Power surges can occasionally blow fuses but if the fuse goes again without clear reason, I would recommend getting the 568 serviced.
Re-capping the amplifiers in the speakers brings sonic benefits. The highs and mids are clearer and cleaner, the bass is also faster and more extended. It effectively renews the speakers and they sound better than new!
As you've already got the later tweeters, you'll end up with speakers that seriously punch above their weight!
Feel free to drop me a PM if you would like any further information.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Paul,
To remove the rear panels, you need to undo all the screws around the edges of the upper and lower panels. You may have to prize the panels from the casework as there is a gasket that can become sticky!
The top panel has two internal cables that connect to the case of the speaker - a grey ribbon cable that connects to the display that plugs into the top of the metal can that houses the DSP/Comms board (it also has an earth wire that uses a spade connector on the metal can), and a black cable that connects to the bass driver units via a six-way round plug. Take pictures so you can make sure the connectors go back in the correct ways.
The top panel connects to the lower panel via several connectors - two grey 4-wire cables, one grey 3-wire cable, and two yellow/green three-way cables. Again, take pictures of how things are connected.
Take a look at the amplifier boards on the top panel - these are the two boards directly under the metal can (with heatsinks bolted to the rear panel) and check the capacitors - if they're light blue and black rubycons then those are the originals.
Good luck,
Steve

Ok, so is it just the upper panels that get removed and refurbed?
