Does anybody have any recommendations?

I've read that the Puritan Laboratories PSM-156 is a great piece of kit at £1500?

I tried the Nordost QBASE power conditioner along with the Shunyata Venom UK6.

The Venom was noticeably better.

I have now upgraded to a Denali, which is another step-up.

Shunyata cables and power conditioners work very well with Meridian products from my experience.

Ditto. I'm a huge fan of Shunyata's cables and equipment.

I would love to hear AudioQuest's higher-end Niagara's at some point to compare.

Bruce, au contraire; I think you’ll soon discover that everyone on the forum without exception fully endorses the use of power conditioners. whistle

I’m just pleased my DSP7200SE have power conditioning built in so I don’t need anything extra

Except Meridian ? wink

A bit kidding but they do state that not every power conditioner is suitable for DSP's (same goes for big poweramps).

I found the official statement in the FAQ on the 8k support page:

9. SHOULD I USE MAINS CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT WITH THE LOUDSPEAKERS?
Quote
No. Meridian DSP loudspeakers feature internal protection which, when activated, can demand high current from the mains supply in order to blow the fuse within the product. This is a deliberate aspect of their design and is a key safety feature. If, under these conditions, anything inhibits the current required to blow the fuse, the loudspeaker will be exposed to circumstances for which it was not designed. Such circumstances could result in catastrophic damage and become a fire-risk. It may be thought that this can be avoided by using a mains conditioner which boasts a current rating which is higher than that required to blow the loudspeaker’s fuse. However, the possibility of the mains conditioner itself developing a problem needs to be considered. If a problem in the conditioner restricts its current delivery capabilities, and then the loudspeaker suffers a failure as described above, the fuse may not blow and a serious risk of fire will result."

Not saying that you should or shouldn't use a power conditioner but i think its wise to take the above seriously to save the life of your beloved DSP's and its owners smile

I find this topic fascinating. There is no power cable or power supply or battery brand that can increase the dynamic range of my cameras. Nothing that makes the colors more accurate or punchy. By what mechanism can power conditioning do this for an audio signal?

Shunyata claim that their products store energy in such a way that they can deliver instantaneous power beyond what is available directly from the home’s outlets. I can’t confirm this, but do believe that my Denali and TritonV3 units have an obvious, positive effect on Smiley 5000.2, DSP5200SE and DSP9 regarding dynamics and bottom end.

Three reasons spring to mind:

* Power demands at high frequencies create a 'Skin Effect', where the magnetism caused by the current through the wire pushes the electrons away from the center of the wire, increasing the effective resistance of the cable.

* Capacitance between wires can distort things on signalling cables.

* Mains noise coming from other appliances. Most of Shunyata's cables filter out noise on the mains (and supply cables to hospitals for use with ECG machines).

As it happens, I've just tried a very expensive mains cable into a Meridian Ellipse. While I was disappointed at first (it initially sounded worse than the stock cable), fast-forward an hour, and it's sounding significantly better than the stock cable.

A battery as in your camera is a very clean and stable power supply, so no noise there and therefore no difference with an other battery.

The quality of the camera depends on the Image sensor but also on the implementation of that chip, surrounding electronics can make it a great or bad camera.

Same with audio, a high end DAC chip doesn't automatically mean a great DAC, a good implementation of that chip does. Clean power, good clock etc. etc. There are for example some PSU mods on Oppo BR players which deliver a cleaner output and with that lower the noise floor and distortion, the sound and video gets better.

Lowering the noise floor can make some soft recorded sounds (more) audible and add to the dynamical range. Lowering distortion makes it sound cleaner.
