Well the claims stand up if you consider the design of their speakers.
Triamped and tri digital crossovers plus the source for something like a 5k and you’d have quite the mess…

I recall a story from way back that when Russ Andrew first heard the M80 he was leaning back in his chair and nearly fell out of it in surprise! He has supported Meridian from way back. Best relham

Best relham Yes, they sold the M80 for a while, didn’t they? Russ is actually the reason I got into Meridian around 2011-12. At the time, the modified old Pioneer laser disc machine he’d used for a source for years had finally died and, looking for a replacement, he’d finally settled on an 808.2i and mentioned it was the best player he’d ever heard, so I got one. The rest is history! Being Russ, he modified his - last I heard he had built a case of Torlyte (which they use for equipment stands and speaker stands at RAA). I’ve never seen that one, must ask him for a pic. At least one of the other guys at RAA uses a full Meridian surround setup with DSPs, so they’re big fans of M gear there.

Hi l started my Meridian journey around 1980 with surprisingly the 104 Tuner! l soon followed with the M3’s and had steadily upgraded over the years though never was in the position for 8000’s l did demonstrate and sell Meridian at Weymouth Hi Fi but was limited. l did do a days course at Huntingdon and got to know a lot of the early staff and dear Des Ford when he was even younger! Even my wife knows the brand of my equipment. Best relham

One of Russ Andrews’ management team runs Meridian DSP5200SE’s as his personal system at home - and he personally used/recommended their PowerKord 300 Mains Cables (he would, wouldn’t he), that had resulted in improving the quality of his DSP’s audio output.

So has anyone bought an Ellipse or auditioned one?. If so, what are your impressions? Back on topic.

He runs a 5200SE Trifield setup, or did the last time I spoke to him.
All the guys there use and believe in their own products, including Russ himself.
DSPs mean I no longer use the Kimber interconnects or speaker cable in the main system, but I still use the power blocks and mains cables, and the Torlyte equipment rack.

The size of the soundstage is simply astonishing.
IMO The sound quality, unsurprisingly, is not at quite the level as the DSP7200SEs, but way ahead of the (now old) DSP5000s. It does seem to need positioning with care (I wondered whether the rubber feet didn't give the unit enough isolation on some surfaces). To my ears, the vocals can seem a tad muted.
All things considered, it offers incredible value.
PS One has to bear in mind that this was listening through AirPlay as RAAT isn't available yet.

Agreed. With a good recording it is amazing with the sound stage it can produce. I have 8kxe but as a matter of convenience, the Ellipse is the go to in the game room which is at the entrance to the theater.

Hi l did recently hear one positioned between a pair of xe’s and dsp9. The sound stage was amazing as it seemed to be as wide as the Dsp9 which were the outside speakers. l just felt it was a very wide stage without necessarily positioning instruments. The majority of my listening is classical and been to many many such concerts and so have expectations of where instruments would be placed on stage. l didnt feel the Eclipse achieved that but Blue Monday with New Order was amazing likewise Eurythmics. So a truly remarkable unit but it is what it is and very much down to one’s listening.
